Firing is worse because it's not your choice. You can deeply love your job and one day have it end and that is one of the worst feelings ever.

Quitting without having a plan or going to another job, or taking issue with something you felt is unfair/unjust is bad....being fired means you at least get to collect unemployment, etc., and it doesn't always mean you were to blame....

I hear you loud and clear!  If they would only take into consideration the factors that you mentioned.  Nobody seems to take positive attitude, great work ethic, flawless attendance and a willingness to work hard to get a job done into consideration any more. I have been blessed with employers that recognize those attributes so I am rarely without work.  On the opposite side...I am surprised how many sub-par worker's keep their jobs: people that call in sick several times a month, show up late and leave early, Need to take a fifteen minute break in the morning and afternoon in addition to a lunch hour that lasts seventy minutes. I guess the squeaky wheel does get the grease.

At least when you quit, you leave on your own terms!  But, never quit a job until you have another one lined up!  You could be cutting your own throat!
