Funeral Homes & Cost
« on: August 18, 2014, 10:04:21 am »
I have seen more and more of the changes in the years as to how a family wants to remember their loved ones who have passed away. Gone are the traditional funeral days of singing amazing grace and having a sermon. Many more families would like to pay tribute and show their final respect to their loved ones by personalizing it. Some churches have specific ways they would like to take care of the funerals but now, it is more of the families request of how they want things done. I like that. But man it is so expensive what a funeral costs nowadays. I think the best gift you can give your family is a prepaid and prearranged funeral before you die.

i understand what you are saying --i attended a funeral the other day that kind of blew my mind--they were taking pictures and not even talking about the person who had passed away it was more of a church sermon--i dont care for that i like to reflect on the person and talk about their lives and share memories of them --maybe i am wrong but thats what i want at my funeral

My best friends mom passed away about 10 yrs ago.She was 82.She was a dedicated Witness of Jehovah most of her life. They euology at the kingdom hall was very beautiful following Jesus advice to mourn, laugh and remember your loved ones.It was FREE.She was also creamated.

The bible holds out a hope of seeing your loved ones that have passed with Jesus words that there will be a resurrection of the righteous and the unrighteous during Jesus 1000 yr rein  with him in kingdom power for the earth.

My good friend has many pictures of his mom. What good is ashes in a urn?

Its ludicrous today how people get taken advantage of when their loved ones die.

Jesus said when you know the truth it will set you free from all this BS!!!

I hope someone reading this take heed and dont be taken advantage of by these snakes!!

Me I want to be cremated and my ashes blended into the ground with my children. Just a small stone with mother reunited at last on it. Now hubby's aunt was different. She had mostly paid for two funerals. One in the town where she had lived for 40 some years and then another one in MN. where her parents were buried.  So that is what we did.  Cost  us a lot. Because when she bout the packets, They were a lot cheaper. Plane ticket was costly  Oh well it is done she is buried where she wanted to be.  Hubby wants to be cremated also and his ashes spread out on his beloved mountains.

My grandmother prepaid for her funeral.  She even had her clothes picked out and they hung in her closet in a plastic bag.  She had told us what she wanted sung and who she wanted to preach.  On the other hand, my ex-husband died  and it was a complete surprise.  My daughter had to handle everything.  He did not have enough insurance to cover a funeral and burial, so she had him cremated.  That still cost $l,700.

There are still some funeral homes out there who are not flexible(one minded) when it come down to a family's wish of how they want the funeral service to be. Others they just want your money. They don't even bother to listen they just handle a business side of it instead of showing they really care. I think gone are the days when there was still good around us. I know there is still good around this world but far and few in between.

[color=greenI'm not so sure about funerals.. I don't like the idea of being burried into a ground and then something built on top of me like i'm not even there.. How unfortunate to pay lots of money to not have that space forever... Our family don't do funerals i suppose.. Most of us our donating our body.. Which in turn will help someone else... All exept my mum she actually is wanting to be cremated.. [/color]

I agree that it's important for each person to make an effort to make things easy for their loved ones.  I sent my children a specific letter about my life insurance policy and that I want to be cremated so they can split whatever money is left after I'm gone.

I also mentioned that I'd like them to keep things simple.

My oldest child seemed to respect and appreciate what I did; however my youngest child wasn't comfortable discussing it.  Both my children are adults.

Have a great day!

The funerals I have been to lately have been much more personalized than they used to be. Not so many wakes and lots of pictures and sharing of thoughts on the persons life.

My husband and I have decided to be cremated but we would like to be able to prepay for everything before too many more years.  My Mom and Dad, my Mother-in-law, my Grandpa, Grandma and several other relatives had their funerals all prepaid and it did make it much easier on everyone.

I think everyone who is up in age should have their wishes written down and everyone needs to have enough life insurance to bury them if possible
