State Law with Cell Phones
« on: August 09, 2014, 11:56:14 am »
What are your state laws with cell phones/hand held device while driving?

I live in NJ and a cell phone ticket used to be payable at $130. Effective July 1, 2014 the state made it a mandatory court appearance where a 1st offender will pay a fine between $200-$400 (Judge's discretion), 2nd offender $400-$600 (Judge's discretion), and 3rd offense $600-$800 plus loss of driving privileges, I believe 6 month to a year (Judge's discretion).

GOOD!!! I hope this will teach ALL people who talk & drive / text & drive a lesson!! You're lucky to be alive, so STAY OFF YOUR PHONE while driving!

i live in florida and they pass the law to make it illegal to text or talk on the phone while driving i don't see why any one would put others in danger just because they want to text or talk on the phone they need to go back to the way it used to be stop making all these handy gadgets and just used the phones for emergencies

I am so right there with you! I can guarantee that, ninety percent of the time, the person who is weaving, driving too slow, cutting people off, turning without a directional has a cellular phone pressed to their ear.  The police never seem to pull these people over though-especially with all of the cellular/driving deaths that our state has sustained. Half the time it seems to be soccer moms/dads with no emergency related telephone call...just shooting the breeze and ignoring their two point five children in the back seat. I also find it extremely annoying when I go to a restaurant and an entire family is at the table playing with their cellulars. I marvel at the parents, at kid's sporting events who have so little interest in their children that they sit on the phone the whole time their kid is playing. Seriously!
