Thanks everyone, it was fun reading all these responses. My little Miel thanks you to, because now she will get more carrots.

Sounds like a picky eater.

Interesting behavior.!! Dogs are smart though and she likes it with the carrot in it. She knows if she waits you will fix it for her. Dogs love carrots. She just has you well trained like they all do. We just think we're in charge.

Sounds like she is training you! We just went through this with my 7 y/o rescued  Boston Terrier. He went from goobling his food down to turning his nose up at it. Time for tough love. We left his food  for only 20 minutes and if he doesn't eat it we pick his bowl up. It took a few days but he has learned that if he doesn't eat it it is gone.

Dogs will not starve themselves but if you are still concerned after a while, check with her vet.

Let us know how you do!!!

I wouldn't say Crazy either. My Lab has times when she won't eat her kibble right away either. If she doesn't eat it and it is still there later we will usually do like you and add something to it for her. But then she will pick around the kibble to get the treat we put in sometimes.

Oh, what a lovely story. I have noticed that my dog, a 75 pound rottweiler and labrador mix, will never come rushing to eat his dry dog food mix and will sometimes even leave it in his bowl right up until the next meal. However if I add a little leftover pork or chicken from my meal, he is already waiting by his bowl as I scrape the leftovers in. Occasionally, if he has been out in the garden whilst I am adding leftovers to his bowl, he will come in and go straight through to his bed without realising there is some goodies waiting in his bowl. All I need to do is go up and whisper to him, "go look in your bowl" and he dashes to the kitchen like it is Christmas morning.

That is hilarious!
