common sense?
« on: August 06, 2014, 05:57:31 am »
a neighbor had congestive heart failure and went to the hospital. They said they couldn't do anything for his blockages.
When he returned, he told everyone he wouldn't ride his bike anymore because it was too stressful on his heart.
This morning, he went out and forgot everything he said. He had a heart attack and fell off his bike. He was given CPR. He will be taken to the hospital. I guess he'll give up the bike now......if he makes it.

Not sure that is called common sense.  Stress can cause you to forget what you shouldn't do and possibly he had just given up if the Doctor said there was nothing they could do about his illness.

Some people just have to learn the hard way.
Have a wonderful day!

How odd they couldn't do anything for the blockages.  I thought there was always something they could do about it with stents and such.  I'm not sure riding his bicycle was lack of common sense or his attitude that what's the difference if nothing can be done anyway.

I can understand this. My dear dad would have listened to the doctors, taken on board their advice, weighed everything up... and then done his own thing. He was not one to accept a slippery slope just because he was told this was the way it was going to be. He would look on the bright side and think, if this is my destiny, I'm having fun on my way out. My dad was a true believer in the glass being half full, and I am the exact same way.

bowrunner- No not always.  You can be too far along is a disease for them to be able to do anything.  Or he may be in poor health and not able to with stand surgery.

I think it is mean for anyone to belittle him for riding his bike.  If he just sits in a chair and does nothing he will die that way too.

Saying they couldn't do anything for his blockage sounds rather strange

That is so sad but sometimes we can not want to believe the truth of what can happen to us.
