I believe that society has done a complete one hundred and eighty degree circle with regards to racism and some people would have you believe that, sometimes just through the virtue of being Caucasian, you are racist.  I had a co-worker, the other day, that told me I had more soul than any other 'white boy' she had ever met. I took that as a great compliment.  Other people may have seen that as racist.  I think that the United States is in a period of reverse discrimination and find any kind of discrimination appalling. My parents, staunchly into their political party, believe that all people from a certain religion are bad.  Whatever.  Stupidity shall always follow those that only see fault in those different then themselves. Sounds like you were involved with someone who was less than intelligent.

I have been called a racist but I'm not. The few people that called me that are the most prejudice people I know.

Using the R-word is usually a coward's way of gaining the upper-hand in an argument, debate, or discussion. They aren't worth the time--ignore them.

If I was ever called that, it was never to my face.  Can't think of why anyone would ever think that about me either.  I've been very "color" blind since I can remember.  People are just people - color of a person's skin to me is simply an identifier - like color of their hair or eyes, and maybe an indicator of their heritage/ethnic origin which might dictate bone structures which I find fascinating.

I recalled as a kid encountering people whom I would consider racist while we were vacationing in Florida.  They were definitely saying that Hispanics and African Americans ("Blacks" at the time) were inferior to "Whites"...but I thought that thinking didn't make any sense.  Reason was those people would lie out in the sun so much their skin looked like deep brown leather.  I'd wonder if Hispanics and Blacks (African Americans) were so "bad" to these people - why did they sit out in the sun so long to look just like them?  Just didn't compute...still doesn't...  I think I was 7 or 8 at the time I went through that reasoning.

I guess I'll never get why the color of a person's skin makes such a "big" difference...

Have you ever been "called" a racist?  Or been "racist"?  Just because someone calls you a racist does not mean you are.  And just because you are white and don't like a black person does not mean you are racist.  In my opinion the term "racist" is way over used these days.  If you disagree with a person and they have a different skin color you are called a racist.

I don't think I have been called a racist, but it wouldn't bother me if someone called me that. The term is so over-used that it lost its meaning, and usually people use it as a cheap cop-out so they don't have to refute your argument. And some ignorant people automatically assume that all white people are necessarily racist. (which makes THEM the real racist ones!)

Not directly, although being conservative we're always called racist regardless of what the issue is about... Case in point is that fiscal conservatives tend to disagree with President Obama's policies on their economic impact and yet because we disagree with the president, we're labeled as racist.
