Preserving the Qeej in the Hmong culture

So as immigrants and refugees become more Americanized, children and the newer generations start to forget and lose their roots, their home, their culture.

Well my brothers (both in their mid/late 20s) are starting to learn how to play the Qeej, a bamboo instrument. This instrument is an important aspect as it goes along traditional events as well as funerals.

This is what it looks like.

That's so wonderful.  I think preserving traditions like this is important.

I recalled learning how to cook some traditional Slovakian dishes from my grandmother who immigrated to the US when she was a girl.  I only learned a couple words in Slovak, but have always wanted to learn a little more about the language.

LOL I am the opposite. I learned the language (partially) but never picked up any dishes.
