I want to take a separate vacation from my family
« on: June 30, 2014, 09:51:33 am »
All my family did was to argue all week in Florida. I will not take them with me next year. I wanted to relax, but I did not. Let me know if I am wrong for thinking this?

I would say just take your spouse with you next time. Find a baby sitter for the kids so you can be more relaxed and enjoy the one on one time with your spouse. After all it is a vacation and supposed to be fun and relaxing. Not stressful and unhappy!

Sorry to hear about the vacation experience.. It does suck when you plan something fun to relax and enjoy it and people ruin it.. Although it's good to spend time with your family sometimes you just need to take time for yourself... If not a vacation then at least a spa.. or somewhere you feel comfortable relaxing and revatilizing.. Your not thinking in a wrong or negative way.... People need time away from each other that's a fact.. Even if it is family.. Some people say there is no such thing as to much time with loved ones.. I think there is... I think sometimes you need the time alone... To relax.. rethink things.. Clear your mind.. Just think.. If we never had time away from some friend and family members we would all be pulling our hair out :p

No not at all
I did that last year and just spent a week in PR with friends.
Only heard from my family when I called to let them know I was still alive

Absolutely not! No one likes to be around people that argue and perhaps your solo trip will get them to rethink their bickering ways. My kids used to love to go camping with my sister and husband. They had a wonderful time hanging in the recreational vehicle, tubing and fishing. But my sister/brother in law have gotten increasingly worse with their arguing. Two years ago my sister took off and let everyone sit at the site for a day. Last year we wouldn't let the kids go because of it. This year they promised not to argue but got into an argument that got the nearby campers cheering.  Needless to say-my kids are done camping with that part of the family.

I can totally see where you are coming from. If you are not fortunate enough to come from a family that gets along, spending time with them is miserable and not a vacation at all. But, if you are the parent, it is your job.

I understand.  I'm single now; but I remember taking vacations with my family and it was a chore.  We're not really compatible enough to spend a lot of time together and it seems like I was their slave; cleaning up after them, doing all the packing and unpacking, etc.

I don't think you're wrong to feel that way.  I just think you're being honest with yourself and with us.

Eventually, I stayed home while my husband and children went camping, to family reunions, etc.  Then I experienced a VACATION.

Have a great day!

I don't think you are wrong in thinking it.  I would tell them how you feel.  Maybe next time it will be better.

Not at all!  I've felt like that many times!!  Have threatened it many, many times but haven't done it yet.  I would probably miss the chaos!
Have a wonderful day!

Take some of your friends and have a weekend getaway.... You are not wrong for feeling this way. I think many of us have been there before!

GO FOR IT! One of my best vacations was a week sailing the San Juan Islands with friends from my sailing class without any family around.

:) Learn to take control of the situation and don't argue and fight. The reason they can do this to you is because you let it happen. If you take a vacation by yourself, what do you think will happen when you return?  :)

I can't blame you for being disappointed in your family.  If you can vacation by yourself and everyone is comfortable with that - go for it!
