I usually tend to my bills on time but there are some that are just annoying. A few times I have answered the phone saying, "McDonald's may I take your order please?" 
Then they'd say, "wrong number" or hangup or remove me from their calling list.

(Does McDonald's even have a delivery service? Lol)

I don't answer the phone unless its a number I recognize.  On the rare of occasion that I do answer, if there is a pause before the other party responds,  I know its a telemarketer and hang up immediately. You have to get up pretty early in the morning to fool me.

I check the number before I answer...but my children will answer, and when it's a local number they fool me....I will say I'm not interested and they want take no for an answer I try to give them the pleasure of saying bye...but they keep on trying to sell, so I just hang up......

Yes I agree. I have an unlisted land line that still gets telemarketers but luckily I have Caller ID on the phone and can refuse to answer a lot of these calls. I think they find the phone number by randomly phoning numbers until they get someone or a machine which tells them they have a real number. But what a pain in the butt they are!

  It is not only telemarketers but now insinuations of legal problems. However, my favorite is the company trying to get hold of me for my million dollar prize. Hey!, I am in the phonebook.

I usually look at the number if it someone I don't recognized then I don't answer at all. Or sometimes I answered and I just said," sorry I am not interested" then hang up. Don't wait for a response.

My land line is set up so my phone calls go directly to my answering machine.  I no longer deal with telemarketers or solicitation calls because they don't usually leave a message.  If they do leave a message, it's easy enough to delete.

I get those.  I'm on the DNC list too.  My phone has the ability to block calls from anonymous callers and 30 other numbers so i just block them.  Now I get a lot fewer calls.  They seem to check back after some time to see if they're still blocked, as if I was going to answer them. LOL.    It's so much more peaceful since I stopped putting energy into the situation.

Caller ID was the best money I EVER spent.  If I don't know who is calling, I don't answer.  If they leave a message and I want to talk to them, I'll call back.  If not. . . . .

You don't have to talk to them.  Either hang up on them, do not answer the phone to start with, or do something to annoy the snot out of them when they call you.  I use to set off a 110 db alarm right into the receiver of the phone every time they called.  This was before the do not call list.  I do not have a land line now but after I put my number on there every time someone called I reported the call.  If you have to do it every day then do so.  I also report the ones that come in to my cell.  Esp the pre-recorded ones.  I do not answer if I do not know the caller but most times it is pre-recorded and about a vacation I have won.  I know this because I have a voice mail from the pre-recorded call.  This is big time illegal.  But the problem is most of the calls are coming from over seas and the US has NO jurisdiction to punish someone in another country.  Again, this does not seem right because they are breaking the law in OUR country.  But then again, the illegals and people from other countries have more rights than we do.  So my suggestion would be to exercise your right to not answer the phone.  Just let it ring or if it is a cell phone silence the call.

I did get a different call one day. An Asian guy saying he was calling from the IRS saying I owed them money. I had one hour to pay them. I was to agree to pay or else a local police officer would come pick me up in 20 minutes. LOL SCAM ! ! !
