I am wanting to purchase a full blooded German Shepard and the person that I am buying from is charging $300 do you feel that that is to high for a dog?

Sounds really cheap for a papered pup!! In my area that type of pedigreed dog would go for around $800. I hope you are fully aware of just what you are getting into with ownership of this breed. They are really fantastic animals but they MUST be trained properly, and I mean thoroughly! The breed is extremely intelligent and very motivated to obey, but they must be trained, their natural instincts will take control if allowed, and YOU will be liable for problems they WILL create. Trained and loved, these are one of the finest companions a person can have.

make sure you check to see if both parents have had their hips tested. Shepherds are KNOWN to have hip problems

Make sure you see both parents if possible. Never know about people these days

Are you buying from a BREEDER?  If the dog has pedigree papers, this is a great price.  If this is just someone whose dog wound up pregnant and gave birth to pups, you can always ask if the parents have papers and ask them to show you the papers.  At least you'll know that your puppy came from full-breed German Shepherds.  I like to see the parents on the premises, and if they're honest, there should be no problem with that.  Of course, some people don't care about Pedigree and are willing to pay at least $300 for a puppy.  If you were to buy a pup in a Pet Shop, you'd pay through the nose and will probably wind up with a pup that's sick or has something wrong with him because most, if not all, pet shop puppies come from puppy mills.

That sounds way below what a pedigreed dog normally sells for.  I'd be very careful and ask some questions as advised above before buying the dog.

Well pure breeds sometimes go to the thousands in price range so maybe it is not to bad.

That is actually really cheap for a pure breed. My dog was the runt and was still $500 because of his blood line.

People are selling puppies for over $1000. So I think that this price is a steal. Go for it...

You've probably already made a decision based on the date of your first post.  Wonder if you bought the dog?  The price would make me very suspicious that the dog is actually a pedigreed dog (i.e. has papers to prove its lineage).  Purebreds by reputable breeders would easily be over $1000.

I had a purebred German Shepherd that we got as a puppy for free. Both parents were registered show dogs but the dog we had wasn't "perfect" enough to show. No real issues just something that wasn't up to show standards.

as long as the dog is purebred and registered that is low.  most pure bred dogs start at 300 and go up my mother bought a pure bred bull dog and paid 3000 i personally think that she is crazy but thats just me.
