Going to the Dentist
« on: May 05, 2014, 08:42:33 am »
I have been worried and scared because they are removing my top teeth all these medications the doctors have me on are rotting my teeth.  Then I go back on the 12th of May to have the bottoms removed and than wait four months to get started on my dentures.  I have worried myself sick all weekend my appointment today is at 1:40 pm so I am starting to really get nervous and anxiety is building up.  I need it done because they are making sick and in saver pain at times and in the long run this is better but I am only 42.  I couldn't afford this and Independent Living gave me the information and I called program that decides if its necessary and they contact my doctors but none of them responded and they usually don't do it if they don't hear from the doctors but in my case they talked to me and coordinator that manages my In home care So they decided to let me in the program and the dentist and all his staff donate there time to help people who have saver medical problems and can't afford the dentist and  the dentist and his staff donate there time and profession to help people and I think that is so great that there are people out there that are really willing to help.

why do you have to wait 4 months to get your dentures?  that is an terribly long time to wait.  Usually they put the dentures in right after they are pulled.    Just seems wrong to have wait that long.

I don't like dentist either!, glad you found  a program that works with you, I 've heard that sometime dental schools offer services to the public if they do not have insurance, never used but if it is true then that's a great option, however they are still dentists, so they will still be poking around in your mouth. :(

Be sure they give you enough novicain. No i didn't spell that right  but it's important.I have parcials they pulled about 8 teeth. They did 4 one day and 4 another day.Maybe its best to have them all pulled get it over with.I've heard of people who will take half a valium before going something to calm you down. After my teeth were pulled i had little pain. Now the dentures will take awhile t hey have to measure and have them made.I don't know how many times i eat without the dentures even things like french beard i forget to put them in.Best of luck

The Dentist said that in order for my dentures to fit and last longer its better to wait until your gums are completely healed and swelling be back to normal this makes the dentures

The waiting for the dentures is so your gums have the time to heal and when they make dentures right a way than as your gums heal your dentures get looser and you have to go back and have them adjusted.  Waiting the four months is suppose to give time for your gums to heal that was you don't have to use that glue stuff to keep them in and you won't have to have them adjusted as much which most people don't do anyways.  Thank you for your concern I am in a little pain today and feel really tired but at least it wasn't as bad as I thought.

Keep your mouth clean all the times! Brush, floss and rinse. See a dental hygienist often. Avoid oral infections.

Dental work is expensive! Good news: There is a group called "Mission of Mercy" doing free major dental work for people who cannot afford it. Google: The name of your state, for example "Oregon-Mission of Mercy". It is a new concept and they will do your dental work in one or two days. Or call your State Dental Association or Society and ask them for this new program. It really works. Good luck!

Want to thank all of you for your comments.  I am still in pain and dealing with some swelling but doing ok.  I miss eating real food I am so hungry.  I can't wait until I can start eating some real food, my next surgery is on the 12th so depending how long it takes to heal I cant start eating some real soft food.  I know I wont be able to eat a steak or anything but I be able to eat other stuff than yogurt, jello, and pudding.
