I quit smoking 15 years ago using the patch only. It worked for me because I really really wanted to quit at the time so I was determined to stick with it. I used to smoke a pack a day of Viceroy Kings, which are a really strong cigarette. I am going to get a low dose Catscan sometime soon just to make sure my lungs are now clear.

I quit over 20 years ago, was never a heavy smoker. Just had enough of it, nothing fancy just threw the pack away and never smoked again!

I just quit, cold turkey, that was 10 years ago. Brother-in-law quit with the use of ZYBAN, which I don't think is prescribed for smoking cessation any longer. However the drug (ZYBAN) is a fairly common anti-depressant in a low dose formulary and known as Wellbutrin. I think most physicians would be willing to work with you with that drug, have no idea of the cost or the protocol.

I wish I had a magic way of helping you....I tried smoking and it was not for me...so  many people have been successful at it...I guess if you tell yourself you can't you will believe you can't dooming yourself from the beginning, try weaning yourself, like a prescription from the doctor....allowing yourself say 6 a day for a month, then 4 a day for another month then 3 a day and so on I'm not sure if that will work......but try it and see....the doctor told my mom to quit because they were bad on her heart and she would not stop...she would hid them from me my nephew would bring them to her, she said they help to calm her nerves, both my aunts stopped when the doctor told them to, but they both chew tobacco now to help keep them from smoking...its a hard habit to quit, I wish you all the will power you need to quit, keep us posted on how it is going for you...good luck.....

The biggest factor to quitting smoking is "wanting" to do it ... I quit, 2 years now, but I cheated .. I now only smoke electronic cigs .. still get the nicotine but not the harmful tobacco and chemicals.

I've never smoked, but when my dad wanted to quit, he started sucking the pepermint starlight candies. This worked for him.

AS others have said, I think the biggest thing is the desire to quit. Nothing is going to work if one goes about quitting in anything other than a rock solid determination to quit.

I quit 15 years ago.  I used the patch and it worked for me.  When I put it on I had no desire to smoke and I was a pack a day smoker.  I know it's hard to quit.  Good luck!

Big turnoff. Try electric cigarettes but that very best option is to quit cause you're killing yourself socially, mentally, and physically.

I've smoked for decades. And I know I need to quit, I've been having a lot of problems with my sinuses. I have tried once or maybe twice, just cold turkey. It didn't work. I've heard the patch is good, hypnosis works too but can be expensive.

Good luck with your efforts....my plan is to be smoke free by the end of the year-and no, I have not started yet. :)

I had my last cigarette on Christmas Eve 2013. So 4 months and I haven't cheated once since then. I pretty much set my mind to it that I would stop. I am 52 years old and cigarettes had been a part of my life since I was in my teens. Now I have been tempted many times to stop and get a pack, I think I want one everyday still. But I just look at my success of not smoking for this amount of time and think of how STUPID it would be for me to light up at this point afet going this long. It is easier for some than others to be able to quit. For me I do believe it was a mind set. I had finally made up my mind to quit, I am happy that I have stopped, but not so happy about my weight gain!  LOL Now I have something else to start working on!
