Have you ever heard of a John Wayne casserole?
« on: April 27, 2014, 06:31:06 pm »
I was at church today and we had fellowship afterwards.  The volunteers for the kitchen fixed my plate and when I opened it up, I saw a chicken breast, some strange dish, a piece of corn bread and greens.  I ate the breast, which basically filled me up.  I asked what it was, and was told that the strange dish was a John Wayne casserole.  I didn't eat it because it didn't look appetizing to me.  Have you ever heard of this casserole? ??? ??? ??? :rainbow:

What I saw looked more like a bread pudding with little pieces of meat and something that looked like sausage and gravy.  It looked gross to me, but a friend said it tasted good to her. ??? ??? ??? :rainbow:

This is a new casserole for me. It sounds interesting. I'll have to do some research on it. It sounds good except for the chillies.

Must be some sort of "chuckwagon" dish.

Sounds like it would give me an ulcer and heartburn...and yet I would continue eating it.

I have never heard of it too but for sure I am going to look it up and give it a try. If it's anything to do with John Wayne it must be really appetizing. The man is a legend. That must be what they were eating in that one. " The Sons of Katie Elder."
