why doe's the task say 50 cents but when you do the task you only get 1 cent?

Because those are not 50 cents...they are 1/2 cent. Note the decimal point...those that are only worth 1/2 cent will appear as ".50", and those that are worth 50 cents will appear as "50 cents", but those are very rare. So, in reality when you do the ones that are only worth 1/2 cent you are getting a full penny.

I thought the same thing, but when it says they are paying 50 cents, they are only paying 1/2 cent and paying it in 2 installments.  It really sucks.

It does state that they are credited in groups of two or more, however if you do a 1/2 center and then immediately go check your account, you'll find that you get 1 cent majority of the time on the 1/2 centers.

Pretty much all of the 1/2c  tasks have credited for 1c when I have done them.  This was a nice surprise when it first started happening.  I have not been able to qualify for any of the 50c tasks, but those are very rare and few between.
