In this day and age it seems odd that anyone would need to have to have all their teeth pulled out.
Why couldn't they just get implants as needed.

I thought that odd too, but I guess you need to have all your teeth pulled to get dentures as well....I'm just hoping I don't need that happen (since I'll take such good care of my teeth)

Overall people retain their teeth better these days than the "old" people because they put fluoride in the water now.
[/quote]

Fluoride studies have shown that ingesting fluoride doesn't help. In fact, it does help teeth at all unless it's directly applied. My town stopped adding it to the water supply 4 years ago  because of the studies, but a month ago, the town council decided to add it again. People are up in arms because some residents got sick from it before and don't want it in their water. They were told to buy water in the store. Why? They have to pay for the water they get from the borough. When 3/4 of the residents don't want this additive, what gives the council the right to override the wishes of the resident?

It would be pretty hard to eat without teeth, so I would definitely have to choose teeth!!

My mother had dentures when she was 16 and never had a problem with them. I had to have all my teeth pulled according to the dentist because of "bone loss" in my jaw, so implants were definitely out. I was a receptionist at the time but my first set never fit correctly. In fact, I answered the phone one day, and my bottoms fell out! Thank heavens no one was in the reception area at the time. That was 20 years ago.

Anyway, I had them relined but they still never fit right, so I learned to eat without teeth. Of course, I never went out to dinner again, and when I went anywhere in public, I used my tops and hoped they wouldn't fall out. I also learned how to make it look like I really had teeth and could go places without them because they  hurt if I kept them in more than an hour. I just couldn't talk or smile without them. One day, I was out somewhere and they hurt so bad, I wrapped them in a tissue and put them in my pocket and forgot about them. A couple days later, I cleaned out my pockets and threw the tissue in the garbage. Of course, that just happened to be the day hubby took the garbage out immediately.

Three years ago, I finally could afford a new set. I went to a "dental mill" that my aunt recommended. Tops fit great, but bottoms still don't, and I still can't eat with them. I've been trying.

BTW, the first dentist retired as soon as I got my first set of dentures so I feel that I paid his retirement because it cost over $3,000 till all was said and done with him, while the dental mill only cost $800 and was well worth it.

BUT, if I had to do it all over again, I would never have gotten my teeth out on just the dentist's word. I never had a cavity and had only lost one tooth in my 40 years.

I have dentures in the top and need some in the bottom....it is so costly to get them.......to even get the rest of my teeth pulled is more than I can afford....

My mom had all her pulled and wear dentures. Sometimes she took them out when she eats. She said the foods kinda tasted different with them on. Anyway, she just had them maybe she'll to it someday.

When my dentures didn't fit right I would use my nail file to make them fit right sometime only a few smoothing parts and they fit perfect I hope this helps you.

I believe in May or June, Medicare is going to be covering dental & vision, so maybe there is hope for some.

& fluoride helps prevent cavities while it is in the mouth, it mixes with saliva, it does nothing once it's swallowed.
Some people don't want Fluoride in their water, but it is similar to having iodine in salt, prevention.   The same people who are wary are probably the same people who don't like vaccines.   But you can form your own judgements by running internet searches.  There is more positive than not.   :monkey:

People can loose their teeth for a thousand different reasons that range from neglect, accidents, and diseases (diabetes for example). Dentures are a 'reasonable' alternative when it comes to cost. One implant can cost as much as a really good set of dentures. Dentures can be had for as little as $150.00 for a complete set of uppers and lowers from one denture practice in SC.

Been there, done that with the old ones. Hubby used a dremel on the first set to smooth the rough spots but it didn't do any good. I was kind of glad when they were thrown out except I had to go without for a few years until I could afford a new set. LOL

My new ones fit great except for the bottoms as usual, and the dentist at the dental mill told me most people can't wear the bottoms, that there's always a problem with them, so I just wear the top and I can wear them all the time. In fact, sometimes I don't even realize I have them in, but after years of going without, I still can't eat with them.

My husband lost most of his teeth because of excess iron. As a kid, he had to take liquid iron supplements and it destroyed his teeth. He was 18 when he had to get them out. He has no trouble with his dentures.

As someone else said, the food does taste different with them. I don't know why since the taste buds are in the tongue, but I noticed that right away.

I hope no one EVER has to get their teeth pulled for one reason or another. Teeth are supposed to last a lifetime and I'm so sorry that I listened to the first dentist.

Dentures all the way, My grandma has an accident and had to have all her teeth pulled out and she got dentures. I think you don't look so good with out teeth. I guess it all dependence on the person and how they feel.

Teeth !!!!!  I hate when people won't won't wear their teeth.  Their cheeks look like they are caved in and I don't know why but they always look like they are chewing when they don't have teeth in ,,,    its just strange.

If you have false teeth,,,  wear them :)
