I used to use just a piece of paper when I read a book.  Now I don't read hard cover or paperback books, I read all my books on my Nook.

I usually fold the corner down to mark my page. But I mostly only read on my nook now.

I guess what ever is handy.  I usually would just fold down a corner of the page I was on.

I use an awesome Pewter Cat bookmark that I bought from Barnes and Noble quite a while ago.  It has the cat on one end, a long purple heavy-weight ribbon, and a pewter fish on the other end.

I use real bookmarks when I am reading a book.  When it comes down to my Sunday School book, I use a paper clip to hold the current chapter from what we read at the front of the book.

I have one of those magnetic bookmarks and I absolutely love it. I will usually move the bookmark to the next chapter and hope I finish the chapter I'm on. It holds in place and if I don't finish the chapter I just lift up the flap and put it over the pages. Yeah it doesn't adhear to the magnet any more but it works for me.

I should start using bookmarks. I used to use them, but since I don't have any, I just fold the page. I make sure I finish the chapter so I don't get confused on where I left on. LOL!

I fold the page... I don't usually read books, but when I was younger and was force to read (cough Summer Reading) I used that all the time... Condition of the book don't usually matter since there are things that age or eat the book

I use a piece of scrap paper.  I've actually never bought a real bookmark.

I have a favorite hand-made laminated bookmark that my son made for me when he was in first grade.  He's now 29 years old.  I keep the sentimental stuff.
