working at night
« on: February 23, 2014, 07:40:02 am »
I know a few people who work at night.
It must be nice not to have to battle any traffic or lines at the stores.
Some stores are open 24/7, aren't they?
I have been told that the gym is open.

I used to work the night shift. I loved it when I first started. There was no traffic to worry about. I slept during the day.
When I got off work in the mornings I would take care of errands. It was nice for awhile, but then it catches up with you. It got to a point where I was just living to work. It does become draining after awhile. It took some time to get adjusted to being on that schedule. My shift was 11pm-7:30am. I would take my lunch and bring a few snacks every now and then. There weren't many stores open and it's not that safe to be out at night anyway. It wasn't that bad in the beginning, but eventually I had to let it go.

I tried working nights but my body could never adjust to it. I prefer working days and sleeping nights, the body's natural cycle.

There are a lot more folks working at night than might be thought. Hospitals and a lot of manufacturing plants run 24/7. I did the grave yard shift at a hospital when I was in high school, was not to hard as a youngster to do school and work that shift but I would not want to do it now. I imagine that those that do work the late hours find a way to adapt their life's chores around the odd hours and all.

I worked third shift retail almost all my life.  I loved it.  I loved having my days to do as I needed.  It is hard to completely switch the sleeping routine at first, but after a while of working it, I actually learned (having children) to do what I needed to do all day, work all night and completely crash through my off days.  Actually, to me the hardest part of graveyard shift was not the job, but finding available babysitters.

It's hard working 3rd shift. By 1am I'm ready to go to bed. but I like to go to the store and shop because there aren't alot of people shopping but with the stockers stocking the shelf and boxes and stuff alover, it's inconveinent to go to all the isles.

Yeah, it's all great, until one of your friends wants to go out or watch a game or something and then you're stuck saying "Oh, I have to work".

Working that shift is really hard on your body.  Have done it a few times over the years and do not like it.

There were some weeks that I would work 7 am-3pm one week and automatically switch to 7 pm - 3 am.  It was horrible for my body, my mind and my psyche.  I didn't anyone in my family for days.

I work second shift, and like it very much. I never was a morning person, and getting up early to go to work was just plain miserable. The only problem I have is shopping; only Walmart is open 24/7, so either I make a special trip to shop in the morning, wasting gas, or I have to leave the groceries in my vehicle all afternoon, which isn't a good option.

I have always hated 2nd shift.  In the evenings is when people have things and I always hated missing out on that.  I don't like mornings either but would rather get up early and get off than to work at night.  My last job I worked a lot of 12 to 8 or 9 or 3 to 8.  So I got off at a decent time and didn't have to get up early.  I don't like being out late at night.  It is not safe.  People are crazy.

I have never worked at night and I do not think I can, night time is for sleeping not working, but some people would rather work at night, I am not one of them. ;)

I think depend on where you work at.  I rather work on the day like the rest.  But it will be interesting to try.  I have not work any night shift except on Saturday night only.
