WHY ARE CHICKENS SO MEAN TO EACH OTHER???
« on: February 19, 2014, 05:03:30 am »
I went out to my chicken coupe yesterday to feed and water my chickens when I was getting the eggs I noticed that the only white chicken I have was in the back of one of the boxes bleeding from the head! I got her out and put her in a pin by herself. I relize that chickens have a pecking order but she was one of the first chickens that I bought. I feel bad for her!   :confused1:

Animals still have fine honed survival skills. They pick on any other animal that they think will let them get away with it. We can't understand it but it's their way of life. It's not only chickens but any animals.

Over all I think they get along but sometimes one will get picked on and I agree I think it is sad.  My brother has chickens and they had a black one that the others picked on.  Finally my SIL gave it to somebody else that had chickens.  Why?  Cause hers a butts. lol.

In animals there is always jealousy and you have to check to see if there is friction when you have more than one. I would keep that chicken away from the others especially if you have a chicken that is a bully so watch for your other chickens to be sure they don't get hurt also and if you locate the bully chicken you can also put that one in a pen all her own.

Chickens can be mean to each other for several reasons. If there is a chicken that look strange to the others it is not all the time that they are being mean. Being raised around lots of different animals and many chickens.  Most of the time when they would fight is when they felt threaten for some reason.

In my eyes This is the world we have become accustomed to.. Meanness towards one another is not just human's.. It's in animals too..  I mean.. this question can go on and on for centuries.. Why are people mean to each other? Why is life not fair? Why do people fight? Why do some animals get along with others and some don't? In the meantime.. You have to understand.. Life is just full of reasons why meanness occurs.. A day not going right, waking up on the wrong side of the bed, jealousy, betrayal, hungry, mood swings, lack of energy, being bullied..Dominance... I mean You take into consideration all the reasons meanness occurs and you have over 1000 possibilites..The Same reasons human's are mean to each other is the same reason's animals are mean to each other.. They might get into arguements and fights and not agree with one another.. You don't know what's going on in their world.. Best to resolve the issue.. If the problem occurs frequent.. Maybe you can seperate them.. I know before my dog passed away when she went into heat the two boys would fight.. It would be nonstop.. But as soon as she got out of heat they would be fine again.. One time it got so bad that we had to get rid of one of the dogs.. They just would not fighting and we were afraid one of them would kill each other..... When she got out of heat it would have been fine again..But i couldn't risk not being home one day and the fighting starts and we wouldn't be there to seperate them.. but the level of anger that was in them both was a level i never seen before and decided we should end it there.. So Maybe You should watch your animals more closely and see just what could be the cause of the fighting  Sometimes they answers may be right in your own grasp.. However i do hope that this issue has resolved itself out..

Chickens are mean, I know when I was a child growing up on a farm I have been chased and pecked by chickens.

Or you can eat the bully. lol

There is no explanation for animal instinctive behavior, and chickens are known to kill one another at times. You are fortunate to have found her before she was set upon by the block! Blood typically sends the flock into a 'feeding frenzy' just as it does with sharks! Happy you got her to a safe haven!

Maybe it's because she's a "white" chicken (and I don't mean that racially)!!!!  I do believe that animals - no matter what kind - can only see certain colors and if they see this chicken differently from all the others in the pen, they probably feel she's the predator and they have to defend themselves against her.  Maybe the best way is to keep her separate and apart from the others and maybe even get a few more like her so she'll have company.
