« on: February 14, 2014, 01:08:08 pm »
I'm not Hispanic BUT I love love love sofrito and making it! Just grind up some green bell peppers, onions and garlic in a food chopper and viola! I use it in a lot of dishes I make. I put some in a meatloaf...OMG YUM!! I also make picadillo and use sofrito which makes the whole dish!

Hope everyone has a warm felt and loving Valentine's Day! Cherish the ones you are with.  :)

I live in NM and watch Mexico One Day at a Time frequently, but I've never heard of sofrito.  My dictionary says it's Carribean and Latin so it may not be part of Mexican culture, or maybe it has a different name.  Picadillo?  Do you mean Pico de Gallo?  That is Mexican and very good.  It's another name for salsa fresco.  I make it all the time and I'm not the least bit Mexican, but I love Mexican food.   ;D

I love Wikipedia...lol:

Picadillo is a traditional dish in Spain and many Latin American countries and the Philippines that is similar to hash. It is made with ground beef, tomatoes, and other ingredients that vary by region.

A very tasty dish over rice! YUM! :)
