Reading Luke 3, I remembered an account from Luke 21 and wondered, "Which charity means more?"

In Luke 3, John the Baptist tells priests that they should offer a coat to a brother that has none ... IF they themselves have two. But Jesus tells His disciples in Luke 21 that the woman who gave 'two mites' (which she really should've kept to buy food with) gave more than ALL the wealthy givers who gave mere fractions of their large fortunes.

But wouldn't it have been better if the poor woman spent the mites on food that she could eat while making bigger profits (donating the proper portion to the temple)?

Hi,
I'm a Christian.  In my opinion, it means more to give sacrificially.  I want God to know that He is more important to me than money itself.

In the case of the woman that had little and wanted to give more Jesus was pointing out what she really wanted to do.She was thinking more of others than herself.

She was aware of the scripture "there is more happiness in giving than receiving"

The definition of love in Corinthians that says love is kind and doesn't look for its own interests over others also was displayed here too.

Hi,
I'm a Christian.  In my opinion, it means more to give sacrificially.  I want God to know that He is more important to me than money itself.

You know that God loves you. Do you understand that it's not 'He loves you if you give `Im all your stuff,' it's 'He loves you, so HE gives YOU all your stuff.'

He allows 'His riches' (life giving rain) to fall on the just & on the unjust; why don't we? When I have an abundance, I want to give it to ALL whether they want it or not (like rainfall).

So the woman wanted to die and owe no further appreciation to God?

That's what I like/don't-like about Christianity: their way of 'side-stepping' a question.

“Light and darkness have nothing in common. Christ is not the ally of Beliar [Belial; Satan], nor has a believer anything to share with an unbeliever. The temple of God has no common ground with idols, and that is what we are—the temple of the living God. . . . Then come away from them and keep aloof, says the Lord. Touch nothing that is unclean, and I will welcome you and be your father, and you shall be my sons and daughters, says the Almighty Lord.”—2 Cor. 6:14-18, JB.

And yet Jesus died for "us AND them." Glory to God :angel11::bow:

Jehovah requires exclusive devotion; though he is slow to anger, he does not hold back punishment when deserved

Sorta. More like 'He won't protect you if you are not seeking his protection.'
