Feeling New to Computers: Shouldn't "Esc" Undo Your Last Action P.C.-WIDE?

But apparently it doesn't---not according to my recent findings here:

On my 'quick menu,' the icons for Firefox & CCleaner look similar; so I occasionally (rarely) click the Firefox-icon when I mean to open CCleaner.

That would be FINE if I could just push "Esc" to cancel that click and just go on to click the CCleaner icon. But I tried that, & it didn't stop NOTHIN`!

What I USUALLY have to do in that case is open the "File Manager," click the "Processes"-tab, find the "firefox"-process, highlight the filename, click 'End Process' & usually confirm that I really want to end the process (on account of I might've changed some files I want to save the changes to, or something).

Is there a quicker way? some 'undo'-button somewhere?

So, you're opening "Task Manager" to close out Firefox?  Wouldn't it be easier to click on the Firefox icon on the top left of the browser and then click on "Exit?"  That would be the proper way to close out Firefox.  If you're really in a hurry, you can just click the "X" on the upper right hand side of Firefox.

I agree that the Firefox icon and the CCleaner icon do look similar.

I don't use Quick menu -- I have the icons on my desktop and access the programs from there.  To avoid the very problem you describe, I have them separated with my browsers at the top of my desktop and my utility programs toward the bottom.

I only use the ESC key within my Lotus 123 program.  It works like the back key on most browsers but still only cancels the last action within that program.

If you do click one icon by mistake, you should be able to also click the correct icon and let them both load.  They should come up in their own window.   Then close the program you don't want.

Really more program dependent. Mostly nowadays to switch from full screen video back to a window and to deselect cells in Excel or spreadsheets. At least that's what I use it for mostly.

Lotus 123 is still around?

Well, yeah, then using CTRL-ALT-DELETE, which will bring up the Task Manager, would be the way to end the Firefox process before it opens.
