They claim it can never happened, but Jesus Himself notes that it does (in at least one NON-HIMSELF case).

If it happened then with no help from Jesus, why can't it happen elsewhere with no help from Jesus?

John The Baptist came in the "role" of Elijah. He was not the same man.The Bible doesn't support reincarnation. It's more a Buddhist belief.

So was Jesus just in the "role" of Christ?

No.John never claimed to be Elijah. He was called to testify that Jesus was the Christ, the Son of God.Jesus confirmed this both in word and deed.Instead of trying to bring Christ down to our level, you should at least try to understand who He was in the first place.

"Christ"---a title given to Jesus by His disciples

Christ means Messiah in Hebrew.Jesus came in fulfillment of the prophecy of the promised Messiah.I'm sure you knew that. But,I point it out for fear your twisted reasoning may confuse others.

I think part of your theological "hang ups" come from your "sorta-kind,Christian/sorta-kinda Buddhist" beliefs. You might want to simply "pick a team" rather than try to make two mutually exclusive concepts cohesive.
