dil prefers gift cards so she can buy what her family needs but my daughter thinks gift cards are not personal enough even tough its hard for me to guess what the grands want.

I am giving more and more gift cards these days.  If the kids or grandkids give me a list of the things they like, then I don't mind shopping for something on their list.

Gift cards are nioce for those who you really don't know to well. I like to give something more personal because it means that you actually took tiome to shop for them. That still means something to some people. Even if they don't like it or it does not fit, it was the thought that counted. However, that is a good thought for my mother-in-law, because I have struck out on her size the past 2 Christmases. A gift card sounds like the solution.

I'd rather get someone a gift card that way i do not have to look for anything. This is especially the case in when something is in high demand at the moment and it is sold out.

I prefer to buy gifts, but there are some people that are just too hard to buy for, or else those that could really use the "cash", so it just depends on the person getting the gift.

Gift cards a good but I would rather somebody give me an actual thing I can hold in my hand and use immediately.

My method of madness is. Going ahead and getting a few items they wanted, needed, eyeballed, or mentioned they would like. Then i get a gift card with some cash on it to a place they like/shop at often. That way if i missed somethign they wanted/ needed they can get it themselves.. The last thing i do is put a little extra cash in a card or on a stocking on a tree because sometimes giftcard's just do not cut it because they are only designated for one place and they may want to shop around so i do that as well. I make a gift basket of the items i have gotten wrap them and then put the gift card where it can be seen or i stick it in the cad.. If i feel like i need a little cash to go with it.. then i stuff the cash on the side of the basket where it can't be seen or i put it in a glass at the bottom..and fill it with candy . I don't always put the gift cards&cash in there only if i have felt like i am missing something or was treating them. Not to brag.. But my gifts are a big hit anyways when i give them.. and i do feel pretty good afterwords it's all about coming from the heart!

Gift cards.  No stress in buying items for them (unless it's something I KNOW they need or want) and they can do what they want with the money.
