What's the Difference between a Prophet & an Angel
« on: January 14, 2014, 12:48:58 am »
Because when Jesus talks about John the Baptist, He says 'it was written' that he's the 'messenger' sent before Him ('messenger' being the base-meaning of "angel").

But then ... well, He mentions 'all the prophets prophesying until John'; is that saying John was one of a prophet, or just that he was 'something prophets prophesied about?'

What's the difference?

  •   prophet proph·et  [prof-it]       noun   a person who speaks for God or a deity, or by divine inspiration; a person chosen to speak for God and to guide the people of Israel: Moses was the greatest of Old Testament prophets. ( often initial capital letter ) one of the Major or Minor Prophets. one of a band of ecstatic visionaries claiming divine inspiration and, according to popular belief, possessing magical powers. a person who practices divination. one of a class of persons in the early church, next in order after the apostles, recognized as inspired to utter special revelations and predictions. 1 Cor. 12:28. the Prophet, Muhammad, the founder of Islam. a person regarded as, or claiming to be, an inspired teacher or leader.
  • Origin:
1150–1200;  Middle English  prophete  < Late Latin  prophēta  < Greek  prophḗtēs,  equivalent to pro-  pro-2 + -phētēs  speaker, derivative of phánai  to speak
  • angel - one of a class of spiritual beings; a celestial attendant of God. In medieval angelology, angels constituted the lowest of the nine celestial orders (seraphim, cherubim, thrones, dominations or dominions, virtues, powers, principalities or princedoms, archangels, and angels). a conventional representation of such a being, in human form, with wings, usually in white robes. a messenger, especially of God. a person who performs a mission of God or acts as if sent by God: an angel of mercy. a person having qualities generally attributed to an angel, as beauty, purity, or kindliness.
  • Origin:
before 950;  1890–95  for def 9;  Middle English  a ( u ) ngel  (< Anglo-French,  Old French ) < Late Latin  angelus  < New Testament Greek  ángelos  messenger of God, special use of Greek  ángelos  messenger; replacing Old English  engel  < Latin,  as above
  • ... and they called her Kelsey M ...
So you can see, there's really no difference between prophets & angels when referring to them in the past. Differences between the entities in the present (as in the last 'reference' above) are subjective ... basically, prophets are mortal (but can still be 'angels to you' if you don't catch them doing something "human"  :angel12: :angel12: )

:) A prophet is a person. An angel is not. A prophet can for-see future as revealed by God. An angel is not conditional to salvation and therefore does not preach or save anyone.

An angel is strictly a messenger.  :)

Prophets don't 'save' anyone either! (Salvation is done by the Holy Spirit only; we simply avoid hindering the Holy Spirit's work!)

A prophet is a person. Therefore he is subject to salvation. I never said a prophet saved anyone.

An angel is a created being, not a human.  :)

An angel is a created being, not a human.  :)

You mean a human isn't a created being? or just that an angel is not a human, while a prophet IS a human?

But who's to say God can't USE a human as an angel?

But who's to say God can't USE a human as an angel? God says so. Hebrews 1:13 -14, " But to which of the angels said he at any time, Sit on my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool? Are they not all ministering spirits, sent forth to minister for them who shall be heirs of salvation? "

So we see from this scripture, Angels are ministering servants to aide and help.

While some of this debate is healthy, proving one right or wrong has no purpose.

It is as simple as this. " That if you will confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus, and believe in your heart that God has raised him from the dead, you will be saved."

So, I will not engage in debate any longer. I have prayed for your salvation and sincerely ask God, to reveal himself to you.  :)

Salvation from what, people who think Heaven is all 'dressing in uncomfortable clothes and sitting through boring, thoughtless sermons'? from an afterlife without Debate? What fun would that be?

There'll be no need for debate in Heaven because all will be revealed!
And Heaven being boring? How can sitting at the Master's table ever be considered boring? That's company worth dying for!

I'll just leave this verse here for further pondering:
1 Corinthians 2:9
“What no eye has seen,
    what no ear has heard,
and what no human mind has conceived”
the things God has prepared for those who love him

Then why go? I mean; if you already know how everything is going to turn out whether you show up or not, what's the sense in going? I'd rather be where people DEPEND ON ME TO BE than just 'where I'm lucky to happen to end up' (although that's where it seems I'm DOOMED to be living in this 'urban sprawl'ed city and not having a car or truck or van or SUV or bicycle or tricycle :( )

This might help......

Hebrews 2:5:  “For He did not subject to angels the world to come, concerning which we are speaking.”  Even the NWT reads, “For it is not to angels that he has subjected the inhabited earth to come, about which we are speaking.”  In other words, God is saying that angels do not rule man … and will not rule man in the future!!

God’s Word teaches us that man will never be subjected to the authority of angels.

I think I already answered that, but here's something else to consider: It sure beats going to the OTHER place! :D

I'm tempted to convince you that you should WANT to go to Hell (as you challenge me to do), but ... no, you didn't answer. I'll rephrase: What kind of FUN is debate when you already know all the answers?

Why go to Heaven?  Besides the fact that I will spend eternity with my Heavenly Father, I will have no more tears or pain.  I have lived with chronic pain for most of my life, with each passing year getting worse.  I am so looking forward to being pain-free.

There will no longer be "debate" in Heaven just as there will be no more arguing, bitterness and strife.I think that's a good thing. And as I mentioned in the verse you neglected,we have no idea of what activities God has to replace those He's done away with.

Then how do we know we want them instead?
