Yes, it truly is sad and what makes it worse is if that is a reflection on the Education system in this country - well, all I can say is WE'RE SCREWED!!!!

It could have been a typographical error, so it is not necessary to call a person stupid and ignorant because of it.  People are human and make mistakes all the time.  I wish people would consider the fact that people are human and if it is a spelling error, if you can figure out what was meant to be said, at least you can say you were able to read between the lines.  That still is no reason to call a person stupid and ignorant because they cannot spell.

Just a thought. I wonder if it is a publicity stunt? I mean, I recall seeing a restaurant with it's sign upside down and also I remember seeing an recruitment agency placing an advert for a job upside down. All I could think was, that's not right. But, I kept thinking about it, perhaps the intention. If it is spelled incorrectly, are people more likely to go into the restaurant and buy something to eat just because they want to be able to say, you've spelled the word salad wrong!

Actually the OP is correct.  People are stupid.  It's not a publicity stunt.  If it is they need to realize it causes them to lose money and customers.  And there is no such thing as a typo when you spell salad as saled.  They spelled it like it sounds.  I have to agree the ignorance of people these days gets on my nerves.

I would be more concerned the food was fresh and good than worry about how they spelled something!!And prices were fair and place was clean and friendly.

I don't like the word stupid or ignorant.. I don't belive anyone has the right to call anyone else stupid and or ignorant.. We all have our good and bad days.. Clearly you don't understand the word stupid because you have used it wrong in your own writing.. Stupid is incapable of learning.. And i don't think a couple or letters in the wrong place means they are incappable of learning.. Maybe you should take the time to look up the definition of stupid before you claim others are stupid. Spelling errors happen all the time.. It doesn't mean a person is stupid.. I have a mental disability and i can't spell half the things i say.. and i am not stupid.. or at least i won't let myself believe i am stupid because i do not try to be dumb or ignorant.. But i am incappable of learning so i guess in a way that does put me in title of stupid..  Spelling errors are part of life. as well as mistakes. We are all human. We are far from perfect. So let's all get along and not critisize others because we already have enough hatred spread in this world.. I think it's time to love one another

Hmm Why do you care? It's just a mistake doesn't mean the person is stupid. People make mistakes all the time its life its all apart of being human. If you say you never made a mistake in your life on anything then i can call you a liar because everyone has made mistakes before. Besides people go to a restaurant to eat and hopefully come out alive and not sick instead of signs that are spelled wrong. If the foods good then congrats to the sign maker for just bringing in a lil bit more people by the attention there getting the restaurant. Anything these days helps when it comes to business. Ps wrong spelling in a sign wont cause a business to lose money more likely to gain more by the interest and others being curious. The only ones that actually care about the misspelling are the ones that need to look them self in the mirror and smack them self because they clearly take life to seriously

It sounds more like a publicity stunt.  And people aren't stupid they just use what they are taught. So if they are not they may put down the wrong thing. When my boys were young I used to explain to them their homework so they would do it on their own. I gave up a lot of time just for them not to mention I also had a full time job.

It is very sad that people have so little pride in what they do that they would not care to be sure a sign was correct and doubly bad when it is so easy to check on spelling today.

now a days who knows look at all the messed up tattoos that are spelled wrong
I always try to keep these things in my mind when dealing with people
Maybe the person is working at the second or third job 
maybe they are so tired they are lucky to be standing up 
maybe between jobs she has to do the grocery shopping, the laundry, take care of the children  etc 
I don't consider myself stupid but I am older and sometimes I just forget how to spell a word.
Also it often depends on where you live
parts of America spells words and even pronounces words differently
I have never heard salad spelled saled
Maybe it was an error that will be fixed but the sign needed to go on up
so the company went ahead and installed the sign so the business could let people know it was there and open
and will be fixed later
has any one read the newspaper they often have spelling errors
I think that some people are getting to picky about everything
And yes I am very aware of the fact that I cant remember how to spell the above work and rarely use punctuation

I don't think spelling errors on a sign would bring in more business.  It would actually make me less likely to use that business.    Most people would agree with me.  From what I have seen most people take pictures and laugh at poor grammar and misspelled words on signs outside a business.  The same with menu items spelled wrong.  If you do not know how to spell a word then ask somebody.

I try to cut people some slack. Everyone makes mistakes, especially with grammar and spelling.
