Any prayer is better than no prayer. Whether it is short or long, your prayers will be answered.

I disagree. "Your Father knows your needs before you even ask for them ... think of the lilies of the valley ..."

Prayer is nothing more than self-hypnosis.

I don't think one is any more effective than the other whether or not a prayer needs to be long or short I guess depends upon the circumstances - I think its sad for those who don't believe in prayer - too bad as prayer changes things.  Also studies have been done (by secular medical) that people who had a lot of people praying for them tended to recover more quickly from surgeries so I don't think the self-hypnosis theory holds water.

Oh really? Did the people being prayed-for NOT KNOW that they were being prayed-for? If they did, then there the self-hypnosis holds water!

And did the people who DID know then have nothing else at all to do with the people being prayed-for? If THEY then interacted with the person, there's MORE self-hypnosis.

I'm not saying 'self-hypnosis' is BAD, but even St. James said "faith without works is dead!"

I suggest you read James 5:16

The supplication of a righteous man availeth much in its working. .... Then he prayed again, the heavens gave the rain and the earth sprouted ..... All rig

Prayer is nothing more than self-hypnosis.

That statement is self-delusional.

By that line of reasoning we ought not even bother to pray. But we are commanded  in the Scripture to pray at all times in the Spirit.

But we are commanded  in the Scripture to pray at all times in the Spirit.

Not 'to be answered' like the prayers I think skinnygwenny is talking about. The way we 'pray at all times in the Spirit' is by our constant "conversation with God" (that is WITHOUT WORDS: He speaks in conditions (we 'hear' Him by 'knowing the conditions He has us in), we respond in action).

A prayer should come from the heart and I think the length of it is does not matter.

Short or long, some prayers are more effective than others.  I big difference is in the sincerity and the condition of the heart and mind / state of being.  Certainly, some individuals have spent considerable time in getting to know and communicate with their father in heaven and communications are more readily had.  While others struggle a great deal and may not receive the answers they seek when and how they desire them.  Coming to understand God and how he communicates to each of us is important as he is able to communicate things in a variety of ways.

:) Instead of wondering, just pray. Quit trying to impress God with short or long prayers. He responds to faith.  :)
