Get jobs?  I know people who have refused to even look for a job as long as they can get unemployment.  One of the guys they interviewed on the news even admitted to that.  Said he guessed he would have to get a job now.  That makes me mad.  It is good that the SNAP program is there to help people but it is not the government's responsibility to feed you.  I am not being smart but that mentality is what has this country in the position it's in.  People think its the governments responsibility to provide for them.  If everyone was willing to work and pull their own weight this country would be a lot better off.

I do agreed. More more people are very very lazy and that is reason they are gaining weight and blame the government fault. :( :( :( ::)

This is why I'm glad there's now a 2 year limitation on the SNAP program. I heard this a couple of years ago, I hope it still applies.

It upsets me too when people who work so hard can't seem to catch a break while others hustle the system.  I'm all for being assisted as long as it's temporary and not a crutch and as long as while that financial relief is being provided the assisted is making moves to have a better life.

Maybe it depends on location but there's no 2 year limitation on our snap program.  I know people that's been on it for years.  I had heard the allowance was supposed to have been cut back for everyone but I don't think it was much from what I've been seeing because I know families that are getting $200 per person including kids per month.  To see what this gets spent on (mostly sugar & junk) and to hear people make their comments so that it is obvious that they think the government owes them this is really disgusting.  Years ago, it used to be if a person didn't work---they didn't eat.   Imagine that!

What is the Snap program? I'm not aware of it. I understand both side. Some people do take advantage of some programs, but there are other that do try to get a job, but haven't had the good fortune to.

Food stamps.  They just changed the name when so many were on it and I guess it was a less embarrassing name for the uppity that found themselves having to use it. lol.  Fact is you still have a food stamp card you swipe to get your free food.

I know a father that said his daughter had tried EVERYWHERE to get a job.  And wanted us to feel sorry for her.  NO she had not tried every where.  Taco Bell and KFC were both hiring.  It was fast food and his precious daughter didn't want to do that.  She wanted a job where she could get paid high wages and do nothing.  Seems like someone at his church ended up GIVING her a job.

Well maybe they lifted the time restraint and if they did, they should replace it for those who are able to work.  I think I also heard at one time that participants have to take a class to qualify and I thought that was a good idea.  Again, I don't know if that's true or not or if it's still standing.  I've been hearing that they're going to start drug testing as an eligibility and that's great too.

Being a victim of the economy I was out from the time businesses opened until they closed for about 6 months filling out applications. Then I spent another 4 to 5 months completing online applications. I got a few calls from time to time and had a couple of interviews, but I was overqualified...like I didn't know that going in to apply. I was not hired anywhere. I took matters into my own hands and started my own work from home opportunity. It took a while to find something legit, but today we are getting our bills paid without fear of being late. I certainly don't make near what I did in the working world, but I also have fewer expenses, so I suppose it all equals out.  I think they should have stopped extended benefits quite some time ago. We can't keep supporting people, here or abroad. The extensions were in excess of what the people had earned, so they were not entitled to it as far as I am concerned. I guess they used the year or so I earned and didn't use.

My own thoughts are Jobs even in Food services is a good job but with most having 3 or 4 kids still need to feed their children and pay bills. What I have seen on this forum is that many judge POOR people. Let's reverse this as to say one ask for advice on a vacation verses one who may never to see a vacation and have worked years but to only be fired or let go cause of ageism or other. What I am saying is not everyone is abusing a system but many judge those for needing this system. It is easier to judge those than to be in their situation.

Sometimes the problem is that the unemployment pays more than a job!  Now, that's what I call sad!  Too many people and not enough jobs ... of course, tons are sent overseas ... urg.

In the United States unemployment benefits are usually called unemployment compensation, and generally pay eligible workers between 40-50% of their previous pay.Benefits are generally paid by state governments, funded in large part by state and federal payroll taxes levied against employers, to workers who have become unemployed through no fault of their own.

Its unfortunate that there are not more jobs out their so people don't have to be on unemployment so long. Hopefully more jobs because available even after the holiday season.
