Like the title stated,

Does anyone here sew?
Is it easy to use a serger?

I rarely sew anymore, unless it is just repairing items.

I used to sew quite a bit when the kids were young.  T-shirts, shorts, dresses, curtains, aprons.....

A serger sewing machine is easy to use.  Threading it is the hardest part.  If you have the manual, you should be able to manage that.  A serger cuts off extra seam allowance as it overcasts the seam allowance so it makes for a very nice edge.

I sew now and then but just the basics. I didn't know what a serger was so you can see that I don't do a lot of sewing. I have friends into quilting that use sewing machines a lot. What kind of project are you working on?

I can sew to mend things but not to make things out of scratch. I can hem things as well. I do not use sewing machines as I think sewing by hand is much easier and portable.

Not like i did when my boys were young and in school. They were farm and ranch kids, so i made all of their western shirts. Both were thin and lanky kids and could not find shirts to fit them. The youngest boy was so thin that in order to get his jeans to fit in length i had to dart the waist, did that until he was freshmen in high school. Both ate like hired hands and had hollow legs. They also woked hard too.  Now i don't sew as much as i use too , only when the mood hits and it is not often.

I have never used a serger, but my sis-in-law has all the tricks of the trade. The last time I made something was then my oldest son was small and that was back in the 1970s!

Sewing was important when I was growing up.  All girls had to take home economics in junior and senior high school and learn how to sew.  I sewed quite a bit back then, but my old fashioned sewing machine that I loved quit working and the new ones are complicated!  I'm sure a serger is fun for those who know how to use it.

I do not but I would really like to learn how. This is funny b/c I was at Hancock Fabrics earlier today and thinking about how I wish I knew how to sew and how I wish my grandmothers would have taught me.

At first yes, but if you get a hang of it.  It pretty easy though.  I don't do much but my mom usually bring us home to help her out.

When I was in high school, I took a homemaking class where they taught you the basic sewing skills.  I remember sewing a jacket which I was proud of.  But after that I never sewed anything again.  These days, I do good if I can sew a button on.

I can sew a hem - a stitch here and a stitch there.  I can read a basic pattern and know how to apply it to fabric, cut and etc... but I don't know how to read any of the fancy stuff on a pattern.  Like pleats and stuff.  Shoot I have a tricky enough time with a pocket.

I want to learn how to sew. I took a class in junior high school and sewed an apron, but that's it. Sewing buttons and fixing hems on pants is easy, but I hope to take a sewing class one day to learn more. My mom used to take my sister and I to the fabric store when we were younger. We used to look at books and pick out certain outfits we like. We also got to pick out the material we wanted. That was so much fun.

Great topic ! I love to sew - to create - not to mend.   I HATE altering or mending - absolutely hate it. There was a time I sewed all my own clothes including a gown - it was a gorgeous emerald green peau de soie.  The last dress I made was for my granddaughter's doll. :)
Most of the sewing that I do now is related to my art in some way.  Plus I teach quilting and art quilting techniques and regular quilting requires a lot of sewing knowledge.
I have a serger and it does a great job clean finishing seams for garments and home dec projects.  I just don't use it very often so every time I sit down I spend half my time figuring out how to set it up for the project.
