What Is the Focus of Your Church?
« on: December 27, 2013, 07:48:14 pm »
The Church-of-Christers got one right

They mentioned that today it seems that most churches are more in the businesses of Entertainment or Self-Confidence Building than in worship or disciple-building.

(Understandable, as we are the children-of-God, serving Him best when we are well-rested & self-confident.)

Going to 3 or 4 different churches shows me how different those focuses can be:
  • One is a church whose focus is 'rehabilitation of convicts into "ex-convicts with jobs".' That's why I feel partly at-home there. I'm not a criminal, but "rehabilitation" is my life. But I feel a little left-out there, since I am there lesser than criminals >:(

  • The church I'm 'a member of' is like that, but it's more 'PRE-habilitation' (teaching CHILDREN to be 'law-abiding members of society'  ;D )
  • A newer church I attend is STARTING to focus on 'teaching the children' as well. That focus is still in early-development stages, but the message will probably be similar to the one I'm getting from the two other churches---something like 'be good, stay "in form," & you'll get your share of Christians' abundance.
One of many Buddhist writings I've read explains how 'all religions are Buddhism' (from the root of the word--"Buddha" being 'ANY enlightened/awakened-one,' "-ism" meaning 'following the path of-').

The Bible's writers were 'enlightened/awakened' to the Truth of Christ, and we follow them. The churches simply help us to keep that truth in mind as we do whatever abominable things we must to stay alive

2 scriptures that have some main themes what the bible is about.....

Viewing the King James Version. Click to switch to 1611 King James Version of 2 Timothy 3:16.

All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

Matthew 24:14

New International Version (NIV)

14 And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.

Sorry I got off-topic: I'm not talking about 'what the Bible's about,' I'm talking about 'what your church is about.' And most of the churches I attend seem to be about 'keeping people in-form with the rest of the world (while remaining true to what has lasted forever since the beginning).'

Is that how your church is?
