How many Christmas traditions do you have?

Our favorite family Christmas time tradition is making LEFSE together. 

Lefse is a Norwegian flatbread made mostly of potatoes and flour.

My husband's family is of Norwegian descent and lefse was served at their family gatherings.

I learned how to make lefse many years ago from my Norwegian neighbor and we have been making it every year since.

It is a big day's project and we have a lot of fun doing it....    and..... eating it!

I get the kids an ornament the first of December to put on the tree.
It has their name and year on it.
Other than that, every thing else is on the fly.

My boys always get a 2 dollar bill each from their great grandma every year. We always have prime ribs for main dish. My father in-law always make pan au chocolate( Pastries with chocolate inside). In the morning we would sit in front of the tree. Read the first Christmas Story in the New Testament. Luke chapter 2. When my boys were young they used to act it out. But now they are a little bit older. Then each one will open a present while being recorded.

We don't really have any traditions.  We just get together with extended family for Christmas Eve and then spend Christmas day at home.

[Our family has also enjoyed the LEFSE tradition through the years during the holidays. My mother is 100% Norwegian and has passed on the lefse recipe to us children. Love it!]

We had traditions when the kids were growing up - now that we are alone on Christmas, we don't have any specials.  We always go to church on Christmas eve.

A few.  Cut down a Christmas tree as a family, make sugar, chocolate chip, and oatmeal cookies, have family dinner on Christmas Eve, open presents Christmas morning as a family, go to friends house and celebrate with them on Christmas.  There's also the unofficial everyone wrapping presents in different rooms thing on Christmas Eve right before going to bed and frantically cleaning the house Christmas Eve morning before people come over, but I don't think that's really a tradition, just a side effect of being busy.

How many Christmas traditions do you have?

On Christmas Eve, Italians traditionally eat Fish.  My brother will make a dish with pasta and muscles (and some other oogly fishies) - which he shares with my husband.  They're the only 2 left that will eat fish, but this was a really big thing when my Dad was alive.  For Christmas Day, we bake Sausage Bread, which is another tradition passed down by my Father.  It's really delicious and we only make it once a year at Christmas time.  There are some other goodies that we bake specifically for Christmas but it's split up between the brothers and sisters.  My brother and I will make the sausage bread, zucchini bread, cookies that we call "Bows," and stuff the Cannoli (it's a Sicilian pastry that we all go crazy for).  My older sister will make 7-Layer cookies (which are very time consuming and not easy to make, LOL), and my little sister will make a goody called "Death by Chocolate."  Yeah, I know, every one of these things are fattening beyond fattening, but you only live once and I'm gonna eat, drink and be MERRY!!!

Only other "tradition" I can say we have is that we celebrate my son's birthday on Christmas Eve because that's the day he was born.  When he was born, I swore he would never get cheated of his Birthday presents.  He'll be 26 this year, and I will have a Tiramisu Birthday cake for him, and of course, his birthday gifts.  No matter how old I get, I will always celebrate his birthday.  I had so many troubles with all of my pregnancies (there were 11 in total), and out of those 11, I had 2 live births.  My children are VERY special to me, a Gift from God, and I'll always do all I can to make sure their special day IS "special."

Our tradition is getting all together for dinner.  Holiday Christmas PARTY, PARTY, PARTY, PARTY!

Our family don't stay with any Christmas Traditions, but we do went to church and open gifts and spend time together.
