Business Card Transcription
« on: December 16, 2013, 12:40:38 pm »
Does it bother anyone that most of these are foreign companies, people, etc?  Like in Japan, China ... I'm not sure where these actually go or if they are even real ...

Just a thought that crossed my mind while I was typing away there ...  ???

It does not bother me whatsoever.  The information is on the card, and, regardless of where the card comes from, it is information you are transcribing.  It is an easy way to make some cash.

Hey msmoneybags (love the name by the way) ... yeah, I let go of my thoughts on the subject of being from places that are buying up the US ... chuckle.  I'm trying to figure out if it's REAL or just a task, there has to be some value in it or it wouldn't be here.  Have always been toooo curious!  anyway, I've completed a few and we will see how many I actually have done correctly!  Thanks for a different perspective!

If I was doing this, it would not bother me an anyway. I do not care what company it comes from whether it is in the USA or outside of the USA. I can work with any transcriptions from any company I like. I just do what is available.

If you read the instructions, it explains that the transcription is done for users of contact management software.  It is most certainly "real" in the sense that they are actual cards uploaded by real people who actually want them transcribed.

The exchange of business cards is a very common ritual in many eastern countries, so managing the huge pile that one collects is a real problem they have to solve.

There are already transcribers for the cards in other languages, but we get some of the English ones here at FC.  This contact management software is becoming more popular in countries that conduct business in English (like Singapore & India).

I let go of my thoughts on the subject of being from places that are buying up the US ... chuckle.
For what it's worth, China only owns about 8% of America's national debt.  American companies, people & the federal government own a vast majority of it :)

Thanks for all the information!  I've been doing the transcription here and there.  So again, I like all the info!! Have a good Holiday!!!

I've wondered, but it doesn't bother me. It would be easier and faster for me if it wasn't like that though because I'm not use to doing numbers and addresses like that, so it takes more time. :confused1:

It doesn't bother me, except that I have to double check everything really well to make sure I didn't misspell any of the foreign words! If they are willing to pay Americans to do that work, I'm happy to take their money LOL!
