I have never had home made fruitcake and am curious if it is very different from the store bought brick...

I've always hated fruitcake, but my mother-in-law, who really was not a good cook, made a killer good fruitcake.

She put so much fruit in it, it was ridiculous, but it tasted fabulous.

The ones you buy in the store have to have tons of preservative, so I would vote for a fresh homemade one anytime.

I like my Mom's fruit cake better because she puts less fruit in it and adds more walnuts. They're both good though. There's a stigma about fruit cake that it's too dense and gross...Never thought I'd like it, but I do. Thanks Mom, lol...

My mother use to make fruit cake and I didn't like it at the time.  Now as an adult I would like it if she were still here.

I've had both and do not like either; even my mother's and I think she is the best cook in the world! but I do not even eat her fruit cake. I think that is one food, that you have to really have a taste for.

Homemade fruitcake is so much better. You can put in the fruit your family likes instead of buying the citron which is awful. I like fruitcake made at home and so does my family. But i don't make it often it is a lot of work.

I do not care for fruitcake of any kind.  I never have, and probably won't ever will.  I do like the German version called Stollen which is quite good, even with butter. :)

What is Stollen like (ingredients?)?
