Downsizing for christmas
« on: December 10, 2013, 08:46:55 am »
I am going to spend a lot less money on christmas this year I am going to give small 10 dollar gift cars with a small item like candy, nail polish or something with a little lottery ticket. I usually spend soooo much time and energy on gifts and truly miss the whole point of christmas. I can give a gift card to a place they really like a little small personal item and a lottery ticket which is just a fun little 2 dollar gift to enjoy a thrill on christmas. Anyone else downsizing?

We are also downsizing. We have decided not to do gifts for extended family, and we are not buying for each other. We will do something with one another, later in the year. I have three children and they are all that is important, the two older (adult) children know we are cutting back and they are ok with it, and the youngest is 12 and she will get her "santa" gifts, but that is it this year.

Downsizing a bit also have more shopping to do .Not sure what to get folks and what they want is to expensive. Refusing to watch anymore Christmas commercials so annoying.Still have to trim the tree so need to get off of here soon and do that.

I've been downsizing for the past few years because the season isn't about how much you can get for xmas - although that is what it has turned into for many families. :(

I have been down sizing for years. When i was single and only had the 2 boys i bough for all of my nices and nephews. But now with all the grand nices and nephews it is just too much. I only have the one grandson and he is going on 19. Also my daughter-in-law and her new husband. We call him our proxy son as both of my boys have passed. Since the oldest one passed we celebrate the birth of Christ and buy a few gifts from the angel tree.

I don't know if we are downsizing as much as we are buying more practical gifts as apposed to "stuff". We are buying less personal gifts and bought a new sofa instead.

I'm don't blame you. Christmas is so commercialized and so expensive. I got into crafting so I can make handmade, sentimental gifts.

We decided to draw names and have a price range for presents instead of giving to everyone.  That way we still have fun exchanging presents, but it won't be as big of a deal or hassle.

I bought 4 items for my daughter (less than $50 total), 1 item for my sister - $47. Not buying for ANYONE else.
