My favorite recipe for fruitcake was super easy and tasty.  It called for crushed vanilla wafers, candied fruit, dates and nuts.  It has been awhile since I made one so I don't remember the proportions-- also, it may have had an egg or two.  That was it.  There was just enough vanilla wafer crumbs to coat the fruit and help it stick together.  I packed it in an angel food cake pan (a bundt pan would work as well) and baked it.  Best fruitcake ever.

Okay, I decided to look up the recipe in case I left out something (which I did).  Here is the recipe--I think I omitted the raisins when I made it:

VANILLA WAFERS FRUIT CAKE
1 (11 oz.) bag vanilla wafers
1 lb. pecans
1/2 lb. candied cherries
1/2 lb. candied pineapple
1/4 lb. white raisins (c.)
2 eggs
1/2 c. white sugar
1 sm. can evaporated milk
1/8 tsp. salt
Crush vanilla wafers with rolling pin. Chop fruit, nuts, keeping out 4 whole cherries, 16 pecan halves and 2 slices pineapple. Mix chopped nuts and fruit with vanilla wafer crumbs. Beat eggs well. Add sugar, salt and milk. To this mixture add fruit, nuts and wafers, blending well.
Let stand while preparing pan with waxed paper liner. Pack into pan, decorate with cherries, pineapple and nuts. Bake in moderate oven at 350 degrees for 1 hour.

What is the best brand of fruitcake to get for christmas? I've never ate fruitcake before cause I hear people say it's not that good. Could anyone tell me what the best one to get is? I'd like to try it.
Thank you.

I use to hate fruitcake, as every Christmas guess what we got for a gift?  But now that I am older I kind of like it with all the pretty fruit in it and it is heavy on the tummy, so I don't eat too much at one time.

My husband loves fruitcake!  Unfortunately, the ones you buy in department stores are so full of cholesterol, he is not allowed it on his diet!   :(

I hate the type of fruitcake you are talking about. However, a neighbor used to make icebox fruitcake and it was really good and didn't have the nasty citron in it. I don't really know of anyone who likes citron, so I'd try to find a recipe or cake without it.

I hated fruitcake for years and years but for some reason I love it now!  My Mother-in-law used to order fruitcakes from some company but for the life of me I can't remember the name.  They were sure good though and I really miss getting them.  I've never tried to make one either.  I may try the recipe bhiet just to see how it turns out since it is one of my father-in-laws favorite cakes.  Thanks for posting the recipe!

some I liked too bitter  or hard to chew.  Some were very good, but I can't remember or never knew learned the companies that made them.

I loved my Aunt Gladys's fruitcake. I loved her too.  I haven't had fruitcake since she died 8 years ago.  Maybe its time I start baking my own.

I can't say that I am crazy about fruitcake and the couple of store bought ones I tried were dry as a bone lol so I can't help you there.  Now my granny used to make homemade ones and actually they were quite good.
