Do you believe in government assistance?

If you  are unable  to work  sure but  if you  are  lazy a**hole  then no.  People  say  they need help on  food,etc   but  they  try drive  a  brand new car, and are able to buy cigs.  Well the  tax payers  help these scumbags out.  Wake up   USA  let us stop the Welfare State and  bring us back to world status.

Yes, I believe in helping those who need it. I pay taxes and I would rather have them go to a family that needs help than to fund government Christmas parties.

Absolutely I agree and believe in government assistance.  For those that need it!!!  I know first hand having been a single parent for several years that I would not have been able to survive nor provide for my 3 kids while there Dad was in jail.  The courts order such things as child support etc... but that doesn't mean it's going to be paid.  Attorneys are expensive.  Childcare is expensive.  Gas, clothes even things needed to maintain a household... ie: dish soap, laundry detergent, toilette paper.  My kids and I had gone without those basic things for years and I was working full time.  So when the need is there - HECK YEAH - When I see people getting government assistance and they have satellite TV, smart phones, reliable cars - I wanna puke.  For goodness sake we have an antenna, a safe-link phone and no public transportation.  If I didn't have food to provide for my kids children - we would have been buried  years ago.

I think the program should be there in some capacity to aid people if they're willing to put the effort to get themselves better. Unfortunately life and society is unfair and I do get frustrated too when others get special treatment, but in the end I also try to be too ill will about it too.

There are a lot of things that I like about the system, but also a lot of things that don't make sense about it either.  My one aunt has a disorder and basically can't work because once the people find out she has it, they fire her.  So, for people like her who try to work but just can't get any where, I'm ok with helping them out a bit. 

However, I had another aunt who is disabled, but gets enough monthly that, if she were to be at a job and have taxes taken out, she'd be earning about $35,000 a year.  Granted, that's not a ton, but I have friends who live on it.  And, then she cries to her brothers and sisters that she can't pay a bill just so she can have them pay her bills and she can spend her money on something else like cigarettes or pop or pizza.  This aunt has been doing this for pretty much my entire life and I don't get how this is possible.  She will not pay bills for electricity and then move to avoid having them confront her with it and then open up another account in her sons name (who doesn't live with her btw) and yet the government is still sending her all this money?  How does that make sense.  If she paid her bills, fine, but not this crap.


I think I see it more as a safety net sorta.  If you fall, it should be there to lessen the blow so you can return to normal, but it shouldn't be a hammock like some people use it.


I have a lot of problems with these sorts of things cause I've been in the middle for a lot.  When in college, it seemed a little strange that if you had a kid, went to jail, came back to school, were in a minority, or a whole list of other things, you could get a scholarship or some sort of discount on your education.  I just happen to miss all those marks so I have to pay the full amount.  I was lucky cause my parents planned for this and had enough to send me, but what about all those others who didn't have parental support.  My one friend had a father who made enough to disqualify her from some sort of scholarship that would pay for a good chunk of schooling, but her parents weren't helping her with this.  They had kicked her out of the house for some reason and yet they were still factored into the equation for this.  That just doesn't make sense.  Obviously this isn't exactly government related, but this sort of thing seems to happen in other places as well.

There are honest people out there that need assistance. Yes, I agree there are rules that need to be followed.

I agree.  When people are trying to better themselves it can be a valuable temporary tool.

I think government assistance should be to the person or people that are in differ situation, people who keep having children and cannot take care of them somehthing needs ti be done about that because some people think you have to do and they just sit back and enjoy.

Absolutly not.  I believe assistance should come from the local levels like the communities and the churches.   Folks tend to ask for less when it involves someone they know than taking it from an ambigous government enity.
