Thanksgiving menu
« on: November 24, 2013, 09:03:04 pm »
Am I the only one who has a ham at Thanksgiving. We just aren't big into turkey and there is only two of us, so i make a small ham.

Curious what other items people prepare for the Thanksgiving menu. I make cornbread dressing, squash casserole, and sweet potato souffle. I bake various pies on years where we go to other peoples homes. This year i plan to try a new recipe for green bean casserole.

My family has turkey, ham, and venison for Thanksgiving so everyone has something they will eat.  There are a few other things that are duplicates of for the same reason which is really nice cause you can taste two different ways to make something and figure out which one you like the best.

I host Thanksgiving for my family and my husbands family. We usually have 30-40 people. I prepare all the food and tell everyone to just bring themselves and their appetites. I have turkey, ham, stuffing, mashed potatoes with gravy, green bean casserole, corn bread casserole, jello with bananas, snicker salad, carrots and dip, meatballs in sauce, little smokies in sauce, puppy chow, crispix mix, ritz crackers with peanut butter dipped in chocolate, apple pie, pumpkin pie, chocolate lasagna, cherry cheesecake, caramel pecan cheesecake, fudge and cookies. Oh, also, assorted breads & rolls, and assorted pickles.

I just have the usual - turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy, sweet potatoes, cranberry sauce (out of can), cranberry sauce (home made), corn, salad with hot bacon dressing, rolls, bread, stuffed mushrooms, pumpkin pie, apple pie, and ice cream.  I think that's everything.

Just a Turkey for us.  We were going to do Turkey and Ham, but I left the Ham out of the fridge overnight  :-\

So, our menu is going to be Turkey, Mashed Potatoes, Sweet Potatoes, Green Bean Casserole, Rolls and of course all the fun snacks like Summer Sausage, Cheese and Crackers, Pistachio Pudding Salad, Crab Salad, Spinach Dip, Deviled Eggs and a Veggie Tray!  I'll probably add more while I'm looking.  I love Thanksgiving  ;D  :turkey:

LOL! It isn't as hard as it sounds! I take the week off work to clean and cook. I always cook the turkey the day before then just put in the roaster or crockpot with chicken broth and butter on the actual day. I do as much ahead of time as I can to make it easier on the actual day. There is really only a few things that I do that day. I have all the desserts made and the meats cooked ahead of time.

For the past few years I've actually had pizza. When I was little I would have some turkey but I never ate it when it was leftover. Just nothing I was ever big on. I do like the stuffing though.

Sometimes we will have ham and turkey but this year we just had a big, fat turkey.  We started off with chips and dip with V8 juice.  For lunch we had the turkey, jello fruit salad, twice-baked potatoes, cornbread dressing, giblet gravy, brocilli & cheese casserole, sweet potatoe w/marshamellow topping, deviled eggs, pickled beets & olives, cranberry sauce, mac & cheese (for some of the grandkids), homemade pumpkin pie and carmel pie for dessert, sweet iced tea and coffee.  Ate too much!!  Sent leftovers home with one daughter and still have tons of food left.  Hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving!!
