thanksgiving meal
« on: November 23, 2013, 04:07:26 pm »
this will be my first thanksgiving meal that is completely cooked by me. I'm looking for suggestions or ideas for something different from the traditional turkey and trimmings...any ideas?

.Cookies, Peanutbutter, sugar and oatmeal
.Bread rolls
.Potatoes (not instant but real potatoes blended up with a blender)
.Stuffing
.gravy

and on occasion some other stuff but the deserts and stuff are usually made by scratch, beans you can buy in bulk cans my dad likes to add salt pork into them and everything else you can buy in a direction box / bag ect, shame my family isn't doing it this year though.

We have a big get together at my brothers house. I will be making the sweet potatoes and some snacks as thee are some in the family that always get there an hur late. And they usualy bring the mashed potatoes, gravey and green beans. So this year we will have the snacks early and wait for her. Do love to get together and see all that can make it.

Mustard mashed potatoes.  They are awesome.  We take 10 potatoes and peel, slice in quarters or sixths.  Heat a big pot with water until boiling and add potatoes and let cook for 20 minutes or until potatoes are easy to stab.  Dump out water and move potatoes mixing bowl.  We have a kitchen aid and use the paddle attachment.  Once mostly mashed, we add a stick of butter, 2 large spoonfuls of Miracle Whip, and a few big squirts of Heinz mustard.  You can add a bit more of each for taste, but that's about the measurements we use.

Another way to change it is to add a pieces of hard boiled eggs into the potatoes.  It adds a different type of texture to the dish.

A good appetizer is deviled eggs if you have the time.  They aren't all that hard and seem to disappear at our house.

I am doing baked mac and cheese casserole, roasted cauliflower, and my stuffing is with ground beef, butter, chicken broth and stuffing mix. Everybody loves it!

Anything that sounds good to you that you can prepare easily will be good, just because you will be confident serving it.
