What would you do if you went to jail for a crime you didn't commit?

There are certainly people in prisons and jails that are not guilty of what they are charged with. However I think that is a pretty small percentage of the incarcerated. The more likely scenario is that of guilty people being on the streets when they really should be in lock-up!

I can't address an individual's situation without all the facts, but if one is charged with a crime and are innocent they are foolish not to fight the charges, unless of course there are OTHER underlying issues that might surface and prove out as even more problematic.

The justice system is not perfect, not by a long shot, but it is the best one on this planet! 'Innocents' that get involved in the criminal arena typically are 'close to the crime', enough so that they cannot be deemed as 'innocents' by those that deal with the dregs of society on an everyday basis. That of course does not make it OK, but people have personal choices of who and what they associate with.

I have a son that went to jail for something he didn't do. Because of that he lost his house where his family lived and went heavily in debt. I wanted him to fight it but he said and I quote " I didn't do it so I should be home shortly" of course that didn't happen. How could that happen?

i would not b to happy about it & b thinking how this happend .

I would have fought that one to the death and then filed a law suit against the justice department for accusing me of a crime I didn't commit. There most have been a reason why he was a suspect. They don't just pick anyone up. Life is not TV.

I was accused of something I did not do. and was locked up.....people can have you arrested on a lie.....what happened to innocent until proven guilty...it's all about the money in the system these days........charges were later dropped, but I was humiliated....I still pray she goes to jail one day to see how it feels.....

I am guessing it would be a pretty helpless feeling, totally dependent on someone else who believes you, to get you out.  Awful.

I'd hope I'd get a cell next to a wall that connected to a sewer system, tunnel out, and make my way to Mexico.

I have a son that went to jail for something he didn't do. Because of that he lost his house where his family lived and went heavily in debt. I wanted him to fight it but he said and I quote " I didn't do it so I should be home shortly" of course that didn't happen. How could that happen

It was for child molestation.  The girl lied because she wanted my son to adopt her and he wouldn't because she had a mother.  so when the officers picked him up and took him to he station they told him if he went to court that and found guilty he would serve 45 years. so they told him to say he did it and he could go home which was a lie. As soon as he signed he was jailed for a 6 year sentence. by the way there was no evidence and was told by a lawyer that if he hadn't signed that paper he wouldn't have gone to prison at all.  I heard that girl did it to many men. but the last one challenged her and after that she moved.

I have a friend who spent a year in jail because he was falsely accused of committing a specific crime.  He wrote letters and demanded a new trial
where certain people could testify to his innocence.  I would also write letters, if I were in that situation, because when I write I'm able to make my
point without being emotionally involved.  Tell him to stand up for himself and be willing to communicate.  Never, never, never give up when it come's
to revealing the truth and maintaining your freedom.

Pray.  That is all I can think of to do.  If I were in your situation that's all I could do.  I don't have the funds to get the best lawyer - I would seek all other means.  Research organizations to help.  When all else fails - keep on praying.  I'll add your son to my list of people to pray for.  I hope he finds justice soon.
