Obama flat out lied when he swore before being elected that he would absolutely not raise taxes on the middle class. Since Obamacare has been ruled constitutional on the basis of being a tax, then taxes were raised tremendously on the middle class.
I have insurance through my job, but if I didn't, I certainly wouldn't buy it through the ACA exchanges. Young healthy people will have to pay exorbitant prices to cover for the ones that use it. The fines and the higher premiums on working people will be used to pay for the ones who are "subsidized." That is socialism, regardless of whether or not the insurance companies are still private.

Beautiful!  You basically say "it's socialism even though it isn't"   Just like the people that say "this is unconstitutional even though the supreme court says it isn't"

Look, if you wanna hate this thing because you feel the republican party has been so good to you in the past that is fine.  You don't even have to look very hard to find things that are wrong with this bill.  Stop using talking points and buzz words, it's so animal farm.

Also, if you say "Why don't he sign up fer it den", you probably primarily mouth breathe.   Obama has insurance through his employer, what exactly would he be signing up for?

I don't know why I would ever try to sign up.  It looks like a typical scam like the phone calls we get and emails...but it is being done by our government.

I haven't signed up yet as I already had what used to be good insurance.  We were called into the board room, by our human resources department, and given a good news/bad news scenario.  The good news is that my monthly insurance premium will go down by five dollars a month (after increasing one hundred and sixty two dollars a month in anticipation of the new law). The bad news is that the first eight hundred dollars, each year, of all medical care will have to be paid out of pocket before it reverts back to the old structure of ten dollar co-pays. My wife had cancer six years ago and is scheduled for monthly oncology appointments.  She suggested cutting these back to once every two months which gives cancer a better chance of developing. Not a fan.

It's going to be interesting to see how this works out.  I don't think anyone has been able to completely fill out an application.  But the one thing I think of that is the most ridiculous thing I have heard is that you will be fined $95 if you are not insured.  Freedom in any form and the stupid government who is suppose to protect us and do what is best has just taken 1 part of freedom from us.   What is next I wonder?

It reminds me a lot of when Social Security was implemented.  There was much of negativity and problems in getting the bill up and running.  Now many seniors depend on it.  They are proud also that they paid for it (except for some low-lifes who get disability for made-up illnesses and conditions.  I personally know some of them.)  I for one am happy for Social Security retirement.  I've been paying into it for fifty years, and now the relatively small monthly payments my husband and I get are a large part of what we live on.  So many people without health insurance get health care from the government.  And there are many who go to the ER and can't pay for it.  The rest of the population pays for that.  In my opinion, the AHA is a good plan.  The sign-up system needs some work.  Many of those who can't afford the premiums will still get stipends from the government to pay for it.  Some people will pay very little.  I see so much every day on Facebook and in other media that is passed along as Gospel truth, and much of it is far from the truth.  Every time I see a political post on FB, I research it or at least look it up on Snopes.  Most of it is made-up stuff that has been circulating year months and years.  Why do some people believe everything they see or hear?    Can't we use our own brains and powers of reasoning?  I heard something long ago:  Don't believe anything you hear or half you see.  I live by that.

If we aren't supposed to believe anything we hear or half of what we see, how can we research anything?

I'm not so sure Snopes is all that reliable either.

I have heard via news on radio that thousands of people were dropped from their insurance companies because their insurance did not comply with the ACA requirements. These are huge changes that the companies cannot implement without raising premiums. To me, this is highly disturbing. The people who thought they'd be okay with their current insurer have been bilked. Most everyone I know with insurance is paying a great deal more now in premiums.  :sad1: Obama promised that we'd be able to keep our current insurance plans. He promised.  :bs:

I was willing to see how the plan worked after it was implemented, but if they can't get the computer sign-up system working, then how will the actual system function.  :dontknow:

It also warns on the website that you cannot be guaranteed any security with your personal information. Does that make you feel all safe and secure? If the system works and you sign up, then how many different entities will be privy to your private info?

I also heard via news on NPR and Christian Radio that the computer system had several different companies initially working on the system which cost taxpayers millions of dollars. And now they're going to have the same people keep working on it to fix it. That sounds like a good idea, right? And they've assured us that it will be up and running by the end of November.

My favorite part is how K. Sebelius has apologized for the website fiasco. That's touching, isn't it? She says it's her fault. What punishment is there for her as the culpable party? It's pretty easy to apologize for something when there is no retribution coming to you for the offense.

I don't know what impact it will have on my insurance at this point, but I'm going to start researching it this week. I hope I can count on something that I read or hear to be accurate. We'll see. No offense, bu my own "brain and powers of reasoning" cannot function without some sort of input.

I've tried getting on but I haven't had luck. The local news said about 476k people have completed the application but they also gave examples of the price and it seems way more expensive than getting it on your own (unless you're in perfect health.).
