This is absolutely ridiculous. As one of our congressman said "The republicans need to grow up and act like adults. Put the Tea Party republicans on a time out and do what is right for the people in this country" Furloughing all those workers is going to be a bad hit on the economy.

So, did anything change in your daily lives now that the government shutdown? Probably not. Nothing to get worked up about.

YEs it did, I live in the DC area, work for a government contract and was send home because of the shutdown, so for me there is no pay will it is closed.  I do have some days of vacation but it is not fair that I will have to give up my vacations because the government cannot get their act together.  I am all for ACA (Obamacare) the congress and senate is just for their own ideals.  After all they do get pay while I am fretting at home.

Is that why the Dow posted a gain today? The doom and gloom about the economy is nothing more than fear mongering. Remember how the sequester was going to cripple the economy? It didn't. This won't either.

What a stupid political stunt the House Republicans are pulling. It's backfiring on them big time.

How exactly do you believe it is backfiring? Not much evidence of that.

Every single poll you can find on it.

At this point the shut down isn't affecting me, so I am not to concerned, but I do feel bad for those out of work, I think they should take congress pay away for each they keep it down, like a fine for holding up the rest of us. I have insurance so it doesn't make a difference to me, but I do think it would be good for everyone to have coverage, but would like to see it affordable, even mine is already too much.

They are stubborn and idiots, but the government has shut down before.  Most recently in 1996 for 28 days but than I was only a kid and would hardly pay attention to such things.

Polls? And polls mean what exactly? Are you talking about the same polls that show that the majority Americans oppose Obamacare? Please. Polls show that the majority Americans disapprove the way all parties are handling this, which includes the Republicans, Democrats, and Obama.

The Government shutdown is a bunch of  :bs:  .  They need to stop playing games and get back to serving the people that they were elected in office for.

Exactly!

Ditto. The disapproval rating Americans have for Congress (both Republican and Democrat) and the White House is at 10% right now. One in every five Americans oppose Obamacare, yet they are trying to shove it down our throats. Not one single politician is in office to serve the American people, it is about serving their own selfish agendas. And what is interesting is they are all getting paid a weekly average of $3,600 even while the government has been shut down.

i didnt vote for obama the first time around and i didnt vote for him this time around. these people that run congress seem to be stupid. why do we let stupid people in the house etc. most of them need to be fired or their pay cut. they dont do anything anyway. this is just stupid. my fiance has his theories about whats going to happen. i just hope that his theories are not correct coz we all would be in trouble. i fear for all of us.

Sorry but the blame of the government shutdown is massively on the House GOP, close to 70%, which is why they're already trying to pass a bill to reopen some parts of the government. Just like in the 90's, this stunt has backfired. How dumb is it to shut down the government over a law that's already funded and got enacted anyway?

love all the government criticism on this thread-I'm in agreement about how stupid this is - then again, leaders reflect a lot about the people they serve....if the opposite of pro is con, does that mean the opposite of Progress is Congress?
