schools teaching about chemical attacks to my 5 year old grandson
« on: September 10, 2013, 08:00:02 am »
I could not hardly believe what he was telling me that we needed to get plastic duct tape and flashlights and water and food and get a room ready  hes only 5 no one in our family talks about this stuff only if the kids are outside the school taught him this and my 8 year old granddaughter backed him up I think that they are to young to be burdened with this stuff these are adult problems caused by adults.

They maybe young but usually when kids have something to think about or do, it helps them from panicing when adults keep things from them; is worst cuz not knowing will drive little kids crazy. I recall, my husband (RIP2009) telling me about when he was a kid, they'd have emergency exerices in which if they get bombed, they have to crawl under thier desks if at school. Very laugh able cuz no body could survive an atomic bomb even if the desks are made of armor or steel. But that kept the kids from panicing & it became a routine helping them deal with going to school during war time.  :peace:

Seems to me you are 100% correct. What I think needs to happen is the Parents need to fight back and tell the school boards - we will not permit our children to learn this type of "education".  Let them be children, not future "bomb makers"!!!!!!!

If a parent wants to tell a child about it then so they should but its NOT up to the school to discuss such matters....especially to a 5 yr old!!!!

Schools seem to have lost their way in the last decade or so.  What ever happened to reading, writing and arithmetic?  That's what most parents send their kids to school to learn.

It probably wouldn't hurt to teach the youngins basic preparedness, but I agree that they shouldn't act like there's an impending apocalypse.

I can remember going down to my schools bomb shelter yes I am that old  and it was very frightening. I think they went to far for five years old but I think my 8 year old might be old enough to start teaching but Im not so sure either... children shouldn't have to worry

I think to start teaching about preparedness is fine; natural disasters are a fact of life. Paranoia is a different. If if was my kid, I think I would call or email the teacher and ask what's up.

I have to agree I think at that age kids should be worried about who's got the baseball for the game, or who's house are we going to play dolls at.  They are only young once it's way to early to teach them about bombings, wars, etc.  There is lots of time to worry about things like that when you are an adult, let them enjoy their youth and be worry free and be kids!

The children are only 5 years old and do not understand what the grown ups are talking about. And all it will do is scare them. Why can't they just be kids for awhile. Let the adults worry about all this.

Kids really don't let any of this stuff bother them. It's really just the adults that overthink everything, including this.

I think 5 and 8 is a little young to expose children to preparing for chemical war fare. I'm surprised the teachers went along with that or promoted it. With children that young it usually only promotes fear because they can't truly understand what's happening. I doubt very much that all schools are doing this. I think you might be the exception.

While that maybe true we can't always protect a child's innocence out side of the home when their at school, kids talk and seem to be in a hurry to grow up now and days it seems like.  :(
