blogging
« on: August 29, 2013, 07:54:33 am »
Hello
I am brand new to this fusion cash board. I wanted to talk to anybody, who will read this post, about blogging. I have a particular interest which I've had all my life and that is the subject of HISTORY. I just love anything historical whether it be a T.V. show, a documentary, a book etc. etc.
Now I want to start a blog on that subject with everything from the first civilization to the Egyptians, the Romans, the Greeks, the Phoenicians (not in this order but in chronological order), the Olmeques, Tolteques, the Incas, the Mayas etc. etc.
What do you think? Would it be worth it? I am very interested in any opinion that anybody might have.
I also want to know who I can start blogging. How do I go about it? Where do I start?
Any suggestion or help will be greatly appreciated.
I want to add that I am in no way a historian but a simple housewife with a passion.

Thank you very much

Here's a site that provides some good information (basically most of what I would have posted here for you with a few extra options): http://www.howtostartablog.org/

I, myself, have been trying to get into blogging and for me, the issue was the technological stuff (domain, hosting, installing the blog software) - for me it's the day-to-day maintenance of blogging.

To have a "successful" blog, one must make some type of commitment to update it with new information fairly regularly.  I get so distracted with life, that it's this key component that I found most difficult.  What I'm doing to get myself "trained" to blog is I'm using Twitter to try to get myself into practice.  Much like success in FusionCash is getting into the habit of coming here every day to do a little bit, I'm trying to get myself in the habit of posting something relatively meaningful in Twitter on a fairly consistent basis.  I figure if I cannot post regularly on Twitter, I have no business running a blog.  ;D

One thing you might want to consider is using one of the other social networks (like Twitter or Reddit) to start making postings on your history topics.  Interesting factoids, links, etc.  That gets you into the habit so when you do decide what to do with a formal blog, you'll be in the habit.

For myself, I decided to go the route of using my own domain name, hosting, and installed my own version of wordpress.  I' do web design as a hobby, so this was a logical step for me.  Nowadays, blogging is so popular that you can choose to use the options noted on the link I posted above.  Blogspot is fairly popular as well as Wordpress.  There are even the live journal routes to go too.  Evaluate the options, determine the price tags.  I'd recommend starting with the lowest cost option in case your blogging desires wane quickly.  I'd also recommend planning to use your FC money to pay for your blog.

Hope this gives you something to work with.

You can do a gurgle search 'blogging' and I am pretty sure you will find everything you need to know, probably more than you ever wanted to know. All I can tell you for sure that there are a LOT of things out there aimed at people that are just like you! Wordpress is the only thing that seems to be pretty universal to the blogging world and is likely the most flexible for format things. I believe that they also do the hosting stuff and even that might be a free service, might check into that...

Have fun and good fortune!  ;D

Go for it.  I have one that I started I think with Google.  I don't post much.  I have not had any luck getting followers. lol.  I even posted a link on facebook and couldn't even get my friends to look at it.  I think your topic would be a good one because a lot of people like history.  Personally,I don't. lol.  But some people love to talk about it and you could do really well if you get some followers.  Def worth trying.  You will never know if you don't try.

You can blog for personal gratification or you can blog in hopes to make money (put ads on your site, etc...).

The easiest way to start blogging is to go to blogspot and get a free blog. If you want to blog for money, I suggest you get a Wordpress blog and host it yourself (gotta find a host provider like Beyond Hosting or Hostgator, etc...)

I have several blogs where I posted information to attract referrals and  they are easy to set up with WordPress with costs running only a few dollars a month for a domain name and hosting. I don't recommend the free route unless you are not interested in making money, because you can lose all your hard work in an instant if they decide to pull your plug.

As far as a blog you post to every day, I did find a website a couple of months ago that I write for now and have been paid three times since then ($30 each time), but you need to contact me off this forum for the details.
