Heavy rain and flood warning after noon
« on: August 21, 2013, 08:01:31 pm »
Yeah, what a day was. Afternoon it just came down heavy thick rain that I did not
expect. Thunder rumbling so heavy loud. Kind of scared the hell of me.
Driving down the road to go picked my students, roads were flooded and cars went
Slowly. I meant not flooded that could push cars away because rain came down so heavy
I'm guessing that we had like 3-5 inches rained. Rains ok sometimes we need to but thunder
and lightning no no!. I'm very scared of light that's it... :angel11: :angel12: :angel12:

I know what you mean violent storms scare me too.  We had one this summer that made a mess of my garden.   :o

Are you a school bus driver?  You said you had to pick up your students.

I saw rain that moved cars when I lived in Las Vegas, Nevada.  It came down streets like a wall of water.  Cars were picked up from the Ceasar's Palace parking lot and deposited on the wall around the lot.  Then the water went straight through the Imperial Palace casino and out the back door.   :o  Luckily I wasn't anywhere near that part of it, but people called in to the radio station with eye witness accounts.

Yeah, we had a big storm this morning! When I was driving I saw a car stranded in the middle of the road; it was in an area that I know from experience that floods pretty easily being in a valley, so I'm guessing that the car got flooded and stalled. We need the rain, but I wish it didn't come in such a strong storm!

Seems like we have had a lot of rain all over the US this year.  Wonder if this winter will be as wet?  And if it will be cold enough for it to be snow?  Oh my.  We may all be snowed in all winter.

That's the kind of weather we had near my house on 8/22. The lightning was relentless for over 5 hours. Some people's basements flooded to the main level floor because some crazy neighborhood designer or the city decided that storm drains weren't important. Plus there were recent fires around here.

We had over 3 inches a couple of days ago, but I think it came down so fast it didn't do any good.
Just ran off, no time to soak in.

Same thing happened in my area! I got an alert on my cell phone there could be a tornado in the area and said take cover then about 30 mins later another alert for a flash flood warning. It was raining horrible!

I was in a bad flooded area in 1997 late winter. No way out: Roads closed, airport closed, no Greyhound bus service out of town. I survived...but had to wait until all the excess water was gone!

Past few weeks, not everyday though, have been like that. I'm in Colorado and there has been a lot of flooding in the Waldo Canyon burn scar area. Our patio has gotten a decent amount of water coming in too.
