What do you grow in your yard?
« on: July 25, 2013, 04:45:27 pm »
This is the first summer in our new home, and I want to grow so much stuff, but it is going to take me a few years to get the things I want.
I do have two apple (GREEN) trees, a pear tree, strawberries, blueberries and grapes. Of course this is all besides my actual garden.
My neighbor has cherry trees,(delicious) I cant wait to grow those too. I love my new home!!!

What do you grow in your yard?  I would love any ideas!!

I don't grow very much except some perennial flowers just in the front and around the house. My yard is filled with lots of trees. My vegetable garden is in the back yard. I have tomatoes, carrots, potatoes, green onions, cucumbers, cabbages, and a few ginger and Walla walla onions. I do have a problem every year that the leaves of my vegetables tend to have holes in them. Even the cabbages, and tons of what seems to be slugs that I pulled off of them. I am not too happy about them!!! :BangHead:

We mostly do veggies.  Tomatoes (although they are a fruit), squash, pumpkins, beans, cucumber, etc.

We have a rose bush with pink roses and some green leafy plants with whitish outlines and some whitish leaf coloring. I believe it's a popular plant, but I can't remember the name of it. Our neighbors also have them too. We also have a bush growing, but I think the soil is bad because so many roses have died there.

We have two apple trees, although we're having some major problems with ants and squirrels attacking them this year.  We're losing a lot of crop.  We also grow tomatoes, cucumbers, green and wax beans, sweet peas, zucchini, eggplant, peppers, carrots, onions, radishes, spinach, and lettuce.  My wife also has a rock garden, several flower beds and planters.

Your yard sounds wonderful. I would love to have fruit trees. Right now I grow tomatoes in containers. My yard is dollar weeds and stickers (sand spurs). The ground is hard to work and it needs so much added to it. So it's easier for me to grow vegetables in planters.

My first thought was 'weeds'!  I have palm trees, bushes and perennial flowers.  There are two cacti in the back.  I love to see the well-kept yards in our neighborhood.  Each one tells something about the people who live in the house.

We have a small garden and grow beans, corn, tomatoes, squash and cucumbers. Nothing better than a fresh tomato off the vine. OH yeah we also have a few

We planted several fruit and nut trees when we first had our house built.  The fruit trees have since died off except for 2 pear trees but the nut trees are still growing and producing.  Fruit trees were a little difficult to maintain as birds pecked holes in the fruit, which then attracted wasps, flies, and ruined a lot of the produce.  Still, we were able to enjoy some of the fruit and it was fun to watch baby fruit grow and ripen.  I would recommend dwarf fruit trees, which are easier to harvest (and protect) the fruit.  We tried hanging rubber snakes in the trees to scare away birds, but they soon caught on.
