IP's and Proxies
« on: July 25, 2013, 01:13:29 am »
When I log into Fusion Cash, I immediately get a message telling me that I have been detected as being in Cuba.

I am not in Cuba, and never have been. I am located in the US...the state of Michigan. Always have been.
Additionally, when I click on an ad, video or other from SuperSonic ads, I get a message that is clearly written in French...so they think I am in France (I suppose) and consequently, I am unable to take advantage of any of their offers. This happens with a lot of other sponsors....they just say that the offer is not available in "my country". I am losing out on a lot of money.

I have read the old post about proxies and IP's in the Fusion Cash forums, but there is nothing helpful or definitive posted there.

My big problem started when I switched ISP from Wild Blue to HughesNet. Also, I bought a new laptop about the same time and am using NetGear92 wireless connection....but even when I remove the wireless and connect via wired, I still have the same issue.

I am currently using FireFox (updated). But trust me, I have used other browsers with the same results (I.E., Chrome) My browser is configured as "No Proxy"...so are the settings in my computer.

Is there any guru out there that can tell me specifically what to do to fix this problem? :dontknow: :BangHead: Any fix would be appreciated.

By the way....when I run a proxy check on myself, sometimes I will get a "proxy detected" and other checkers will come up with "No proxy detected".  :BangHead: ???

Thus far, Fusion Cash has been accepting me, but I have reservations that this might become an issue in the future. Fusion Cash admin...please advise.

Thank you. :binkybaby:

Satellite internet connections can often cause issues with "geolocation" (the process of guessing your location based on your IP address).  In your particular case, I can see that it's detecting some of your IPs as being in Cuba.  I've requested an update from our geolocation database provider and it should hopefully be fixed in a week or two.

Wow! That was fast...thank you!

I appreciate the answer and hopefully it will work, but will that help me with the sponsors I mentioned like Super Sonic ads and others? :dontknow:

Fusioncash ROCKS!!! Where else can you get that kind of personal support from a penny click program?

I have HughesNet, and it usually shows me in Maryland, but I've never been in Cuba! I've never had a problem with FC, thank God. The bad thing about them changing IP's and using proxies, is that every time I go to check my bank accounts, I have to jump through a bunch of verification hoops because they think I'm logging in from a different location. (the good thing is that maybe the government doesn't know where I am, LOL!)

Fusion Cash is the best, thats why I love this site,  They are on top of issues when they happen.  If they are not aware of an issue and you bring it to there attention they are so good and very timely to help solve the problem or issue and if they can't solve it they will let you know what is going on.

Thanks Fusion Cash

Hopefully, what the Admin said will take care of it, however, if I were you, I'd be calling your ISP and explaining the problem to them.  It certainly sounds like it's a HughesNet problem.

Yea...I called my ISP (HughesNet) a long time ago. I specifically asked for technical support. The rep I got the first time told me that Hughes did not use a proxy at all :angry7: So I ran a check and found a "proxy detected". Then I called Hughes back and asked a different rep....this time I got a different answer...yes they do have a proxy, but that if I set my browser to "no proxy" that would eliminate it. That was entirely B.S. :bs:

I tried all the settings in my browser and computer. Tried different browsers. So check tell me "no proxy detected". Others tell me that they do "detect a proxy".

In my search to resolve this problem, I have come to some conclusions: 1) The detection or proxies is not standard. 2) There are many many different types of proxies. 3) You can find hundreds of articles on how to get a proxy and hide behind it, but I have yet to find one article that will tell me how to get rid of proxies. 4) I don't believe that you can entirely eliminate "proxies" .....because they have different functions (being there are so many different types of them).

If there is someone out there that can tell me otherwise....please do, and how I can get rid of these pesky proxies. ::)

Again...thank you F.C. admin for understanding and you support. ;D

P.S.   I am stuck with satellite ISP. As I just changed from Wild Blue to Hughes, I am stuck with Hughes for 2 years (contract). :crybaby2:

It has little do with proxies.  It is more that the IP addresses used by satellite internet companies are difficult to pin down, since sometimes they serve customers in multiple countries with the same or similar sets of IP addresses.  The fault is not with Hughes but rather with the 3rd party database that provides the "geolocation" lookup.  And they've already been alerted to the issue.  They update the file monthly on the 1st so I assume it'll go through and work properly starting then.

I'm not sure what kind of router/modem setup you use with satellite internet, but if you have any way to reset/reconnect it, that might get you issued a new IP which might not have the Cuba issue.  That's the best short term solution I can come up with.

That's the best answer I have heard yet. So Admin, if this geolocator fixes my problem here on Fusion Cash, does that fix my problems with other sites also? Or do the other sites subscribe to different locators? I mean for example that Yahoo thinks I am in Nevada, SuperRewards thinks I am in France, and etc...etc..etc.

I do realize that the bottom line is my IP. I just believed that the proxies would be the determining factor for the IP detected. Please do not misunderstand....I have the same problem on other sites...not just F.C. Many times I have taken a survey, just to have them come back and say "someone else using this computer has already taken this survey". It gets real frustrating knowing that I just wasted 20 or 30 minutes.

I have attempted several times to change my IP internally on my computer using Windows tools and browser settings.....as you noted Admin....I have been doing all that for nothing.

Thank you Admin....I do not wish to infer here that you can solve all my issues. I just am discussing these things in the hopes that it will shed some light on these problems and other users can get a better idea of why some things pan out the way the do, like not getting credit for a survey, task or video perhaps.

Additional note to the above....I have the modem as supplied by Hughes. I have had to unplug it to reset it many times....it is just the nature of the beast. As a matter of fact, I just did that during the course of this discussion..just a couple of days ago.

Once again...thank you kindly for your support. ;D

There are quite a few different IP location providers.  This page ( http://www.iplocation.net/ ) will let you check what 4 different geolocation databases for your IP.  But since I don't know what database other sites use, I can't tell you anything about that.  And bear in mind that the duplicate IP issue is separate.  That's happening because Hughes does force your data through a proxy and thus you end up "sharing" IPs.  But it's not a traditional proxy which you can just turn off -- that kind of ISP proxy is generally impossible or difficult to circumvent.

OK...thank you admin. You have been very helpful. I will continue in my quest to get some IP that is acceptable to everyone, but I will keep in mind what you said about it being nearly impossible.
