I think the old cartoons like Tom and Jerry, Mickey Mouse, Porky Pig and Bugs Bunny are good for the kids and a lot of adults like them too!

When my boys were young they love Zaboomafoo, Thomas the Tank engine, and Bob the builder. They later enjoyed superman, batman, Justice League, Tom and Jerry and the old electric company with Morgan Freeman as the Easy Reader! I wish they still have that available as that old one really was an instrument for them to learn how to pronounced and read words. There's count Dracula, very important for helping kids how to read and count even though it wasn't a cartoon.

From shows now-a-days, Disney characters by far. Mickey, Doc, Sophia. There's life lessons wrapped up in all the shows.
I refuse to let my children watch Spongebob. I find the humor crude and far too adult for children-even if it goes over their heads.
