pests
« on: July 17, 2013, 05:48:39 am »
a tiny baby lizard slipped through the cracks "somewhere" and I found him in my bedroom.
I gave up looking for him after a while. He went under my bed. then under my dresser.
I cleaned under my bed [a rare occasion;the vacuum doesn't fit under my adjustable bed.]even though he scampered out from under there.
A lizard is hard to catch.
I am able to get rid of flies, spiders, or knats with oregano oil spray.
These are the 'benefits' of living on the first floor.

I've never had a lizard in the house before. They usually like dark damp places. They are fast so i can see why you would have trouble catching one. I wish I had some advice for you but I really don't know how you would go about getting rid of one.

I hate the flying insects, especially the mosquitoes.

One of the few pest I loathe with a passion are mosquitoes and gnats.... Mosquitoes that bite me usually give me bites that puff and itch like crazy (had 5 of them on Monday)... Another pest is gnats as they are annoying as heck trying to fly at your face

We have an occasional loose hampster running around our house.  Sometimes they get found and sometimes not.  LOL

In some countries a lizard in the house is considered good luck. My cat brings them in occasionally. Usually pulls the tail off but otherwise doesn't hurt them.

So do you consider the hamster to be a pest?  Seems like it would be fun to have a "spot-the-hamster" thing going on.

Only pests this year is fleas, but they aren't bad.  Took in a stray kitten, couldn't find its parents and the little thing made itself at home so he's staying.  He had fleas and passed them on to the dog and other to cats.  They've been treated and problem seems to be under control.

Try a baited trap that closes downwards trapping it. Hope you catch the Lizard before more comes for shelter in your house.

we are having a terrible summer this year with biting flies !!!!!!!!  I have never had a summer like this.  Mosquito's are not as bad as the flies.

I have fly bait/traps out but they seem to always find me first :'( :'(

Not sure what else to do.  I hate staying inside when its nice out,,,  seeing we don't always have nice days.

see if a pet store can help you rig a trap with lizard favorite food.

In eight years living in this particular house, I really haven't had problems with pests. This year I have had two Black snakes, although they are good for keeping rats and field mice away I don't like those slivery little things. My wife is scared to death of them. I had to get rid of one of them in the woods and the other one was pretty large so I called out an exterminator for it. I guess it is the quantity of rain we had this summer!! I laid down moth ball powder and regular moth *bleep* around the house to keep them at bay. I've heard this works good. There are also snake away which I heard is basically the same thing but, costs about twice as much as moth *bleep* or powder, which does the same thing.
