It is just plain media attention that is all.

I think it is the stupidest thing I have every heard of.  She used a derogatory word...about 20 years ago.  And a ton of people might have used such a word in that situation.  None of which is being taken into account.  People need to get over themselves.

I think Paula Deen did what a lot of us have done in the past and the present.  I'm not saying she's in the right.  How's her behavior now?  I feel like her sponsors are judging her on her past which, I would like to believe, is not who she is now.  That's not fair to Deen.

I do think that if she was that offended by the language being used by the workers in the restaurant she co-owned, she should've created a policy to stop it.  She definitely has control over that.

It was wrong of her to demean another person.  However, it seems a little strange how, if what I know is correct, this is over something that happened a while ago.  If it's still going on, than the lawsuit is all right.  But if you are going to sue someone over something they did more than 10 years ago, then there are probably other famous and not-so-famous people that should be sued as well.

As this was something she continued to do, the one that got me was when she was planning to have her brother's wedding theme to be that of being on a plantation and wanted black people to dress up like slaves. With that said she got what was coming to her. Maybe others will think before they speak and this will be a lesson learned for her. :icon_rr:

What she said in the past was really wrong, particularily the story of her brother's wedding and what she wanted it to be like.  Does anyone think that she can successfully rebound after all of this, and what  would it take to it?

I think the situation as absurd. So, every woman that calls a man, that does them an injustice, an *bleep* should get in trouble and lose their job. No, no one would even care. How about if a man calls a woman a *bleep*, would he then lose his job. No, women would be upset and men would think it's a joke but in the end nothing would happen. Yes the N word is a very offensive and hurtful word but I don't think it makes you a racist I think it's a word that has been ingrained in people to think of a bad black person not just all black people in general. Just like all those other offensive words I've mentioned and even more. I in no way think that makes it okay or would support anyone who says it but we are human we all make mistakes I don't think she should have lost her job for that, especially since it was not something she said in the public eye since she's been famous!

What happened so many years ago is outrageous. What happened in the past should remain in the past. I love Paula Deen. She is a great person.

This was 30 years ago.  Who cares.  Pretty much everyone has called someone else a bad name in their life time.
Or been called a bad name.  And 30 years ago it was accepted to call a black person a "n"igger.  It's not a bad word.  It just is what it is.  And if you look up the word in the dictionary it is a person who is lazy and will not work.  When black people were slaves - they worked.  And I know a ton of white people who are lazy and won't work.   :BangHead:

This lawsuit has never been about the N-word,” Jackson told CNN through her lawyer Matthew Billips. “It is to address Ms. Deen’s patterns of disrespect and degradation of people that she deems to be inferior.

I may be a white woman, but I could no longer tolerate her abuse of power as a business owner, nor her condonation of Mr. Hier’s despicable behavior on a day-to-day basis. I am what I am, and I am a human being that cares about all races, and that is why I feel it is important to be the voice for those who are too afraid to use theirs.”

 :peace:

I thought it was over kill also, but after reading this comment, and if this comment is true now I get while people are making a big deal over this.
