I Used To Listen To Metal Back In The 80s  But I Gave It Up for A While.  Back In 2004  , A Friend Of Mine Dragged Me To  Ozzfest.  I Went  Again in 2007. I Have Been A Metal Head Ever Since.

I don't think Christians should sweat the small stuff. The Bible does not refer to any type of music as sin. To each his own. If you don't like it, you don't have to listen. Nor do the heavy metal fans have to listen to your music.

First of all, "heavy metal" is just a style of music -- the sound, tempo, key, and instruments used all define this style. But the genre has nothing to do with the lyrics or their meaning. Heck, Green Jello has a song about the children's story "The 3 Little Pigs". Thus if a heavy metal band does play a song about religion, it doesn't mean that the song will be satanic or even pagan in nature. That is why there are even heavy metal Christian rock bands, like Skillet and Creed (as well as some with less popularity outside of Christian rock fans).

Secondly, many people seem to confuse topics about death and / or sin as being supportive of these topics. Furthermore, symbols that we tend to associate with these darker topics are also not supportive of those topics. Thus wearing black and having pictures depicting skulls doesn't mean that the band supports death (or killing people). The Goth culture also suffers from this misunderstanding. Many people that are engaged in this Goth counter-culture are actually very spiritual and even Christian in nature, but tend to focus on these darker topics.

I could care less either way to be honest. Religion is a plague ...

It's the unknown that is what folks do not like and most folks don't equate heavy metal with religion, however, maybe Heavy Metal could be religious... it's not for me to judge...
