heavy metal and religion

there has been a lot of bad press over the years about heavy metal music, but if you open your eyes to it, some of it does speak about religion.
Megadeth, believe it or not, speaks on religious matters quite frequently on their albums.
Slayer also speaks about religious topics on their albums, and for the record, they were not Satanic like everybody believes.
Metallica, on the album "Ride the Lightning" has a song called "Creeping Death" which talks about the Israelites in Egypt. on Master of Puppets, they have 2 songs speaking on the character of Satan. one song is "Master of Puppets" and the other song is called "Leper Messiah".
Iron Maiden spoke about religion alot on their albums as well. it made you wonder if Bruce Dickinson is a Christian. listen to the song "Number of the Beast" and it feels like it was pulled right out of the Bible.
Pantera spoke on religion on their albums too from their 1990 album to their 1994 album. the song "Becoming" talks about how Lucifer aspired to raise his throne above God's, on the album "Far Beyond Driven"
when Max Cavalera fronted the Brazilian thrash metal band Sepultura, they spoke alot about religion.
German thrash metal band Kreator also talks about religion frequently.

I think Heavy Metal has gotten a bad rap over the years. It started with the Beatles and it stuck all the way until now. I remember seeing Judas Priest being bashed for sending evil messages and murder. What a stupid way to look at rock music. They blame heavy metal music for the kids being crazy, what about before rock music, there were still crazy people then, right? All I can say is that LONG LIVE ROCK AND ROLL.

I agree with you.  It's stupid to think that any one thing is the cause of people turning away from God.  All this ever accomplished was putting other crazies who don't LIKE what they hear up to the task of trying to get the music or anything else they don't like BANNED.  Yes, LONG LIVE ROCK N' ROLL!

look at the bands WASP, KISS, and AC/DC: people said a variety of things about WASP: We Are Sexual Perverts, We Are Satan's People, etc
KISS stood for Knights In Satan's Service, and AC/DC stood for AntiChrist Devil's Child
when GWAR debuted, people said: God, What Awful Racket, Gay Women Against Rape, Great White Aryan Race. however, Dave "Oderus Urungus" Brockie
used to have it as GWWWAAAAAAARRRR before the band made it big. they shortened it to GWAR.
remember back in the day when Sam Kinison merged heavy metal and comedy? I loved his song "Wild Thing"

There are Christian metal bands out there.  Not as many as certain other genres, of course, but there's Skillet, and if you want something heavier than that there's August Burns Red, Killswitch Engage, and Times of Grace.  It is some of the most spiritual music I've heard, and it connects me to God in ways old hymns just don't.

I'm not a huge Metal fan,but there are some good songs out there I like.I know a lot of Metal bands get a bad rap,but some like Dave Mustaine of Megadeth,for example,are actually Christians.

Nothing wrong with most heavy metal band. People just think too much, and try to find something wrong with it.

I think when it comes to heavy metal, the style of the music tends to rub a majority of the people the wrong way, so "obviously" there has to be something "wrong" with it - and it becomes a target.  I observed after the big heavy metal bash from the 70's/80's, attention turned to the evils of Rap music in the 90's.

I don't think any style of music is more "evil" than the next - it's the intent and message of the musician.

Me, personally, I'm not a particular fan of the heavy metal genre.  There's a song here and there, generally those on the "lighter side" of heavy metal that I like.  But very few (much like my "love" of country - << shudder >>).

The bottom line is , knowing about God is not enough for salvation; wheter we are reading, the singing or talking about God. We must invite Jesus Christ into our lives.

I love heavy metal music to a degree. I'm not into the real Heavy Metal bands but do like GnR, Kiss, Some of Crue's songs etc. Poison is one of my all time fav. Metal bands though and they did a religious type song.

Bad rap for Heavy Metal? It must be the low vibration. The vibration plays an essential role to how our body cells react to certain types of music.

I may not like the really loud way songs are expressed in heavy metal music but I no problem with it's religious contents. It goes back to freedom to express yourself. If god fearing christens can sing hems @ church or a public gathering w/fearing they'd be censored than heavy metal music should as well be expressed freely.

Heavy metal music is just not one of my favorite genres regardless of what the lyrics say.  It's a little difficult to actually hear them, so who cares?
